Montreal, Oct. 5.-- The contract for the Lake Superior branch of the Grand Trank Pacifio, from Fort Wil. liam to Lake Superior Junction, about two hundred and ten miles, was interest on which awarded, to-day, at the office of Frank W. orke, general manager of the Grand Trunk Paeifio, to Foley Bros., Larson & Co., of Winnipeg. The cases come to trial next week, and fifty witnesses have been subpoenaed from this county to appear against them. New York, Oct. 5.-- Edward Devlin, the real cstate manager of the New York Life Insurance company, resum ed, to-day, his testimony before the legislative ~ committee. He testified that the company's building in Mon- treal, cost $818,229, and was carried at $350,000. It has a net income of 89,212, or about eleven per cent. on the actual cost. T. Vienna, Oct. 5.--Detectives have just discovered a veritable coining factory in tho barracks of the 6th Battalion of pioneers at Klosternéuburg. Several soldiers have been arrested. The chief of the band was a pioneer, and ut tached to an officer. He had install: ed a small foundry in the kitchen of the officer's quarters.
