Kendell, Mont, Feb. 10--In a humble cottage at the Kendall mine, living in contentment and obsourity, satisfied with daily wage received as a toiler by night in the cyanide plant, lives Charles Roberts, nephew of the distinguished English ral, + Lord Roberts. Not only is Charles Roberts the great general's nephew, but he is by hereditary right entitled to a vast ancestral estate in Dublin which Lord Roberts has occupied for years. The story sotnds like a romance, but the fact of Charles Roberts' re: lationship is acknowledged by Lord Roberts himself and was publicly roclaimed by him at a meeting in ondon on the occasion of his nephew's visit fo that city. . A secret service man visited Kendall some months ago. He was sent by Lord Roberts to interview his nephew, The fact was unknown to anyone save Mr. Roberts and kis wife, who maintained silence on the subject. Soon afterward Mr. Roberts left for London. That was on August 23rd. The lineage came bout through the fact that his father; Richard Roberts, and Frederick Sleigh (Lord Roberts) were brothers, Richard was the oldest son, owing to his untimely death never succeeded to the inheritance, but ae cording to the rule of hereditary sue. cession his eldest son should have been in tine for the peerage and es tate. Charles Roberts, of Kendall, is the eldest som of Richard Roberts, but when his grandfather died Charles was adrift somewhere in Canada, none of his relatives knew where, Jt4 was reported that he was dead and no special effort was made to verify the report until recently. Lord Rob: but ts | took possession of the esta rightfully belonged to his youthful nephew, Not long ago, how- ever, an advertisement was inserted inquiring the whereabouts of Charles t Roberts, The visit of a secret service man followed and the subsequent journey to England which established the relationship absolutely; Mr, Richards has in his possession a photograph, personally presented to him by his uncle. Mr. Roberts is thirtv-eight vears old. He was horn in the province of Ontario, Durham, Canada, and in 18096 was married. Mr. pnd Mes.
