"A love tragedy for you," said Dr. Wynn Westcott to the jury at the in- quest at Hackney after the sad life story "of James Tullett, aged forty- four had been unfolded. Tullett Lived lat 30 Dolkestone road, West Ham. "He had been courting for a very lone time, id his sister, but his sweetheart dine after an ill ness of only a few hours." "How old was the lady ?" asked the caronsr, "Forty-two," | replied the witness. "He hardly spoke from the time she died." "How long had he heen engaged ?" "From childhood. My mother and her mother were left widows, and the two children went to school together and grew up together. They heecame en- gaged, but never married. They had been keeping company. for over twen, J ty vears. The witness added that Tullett had said that he could not bear to attend the funeral of his sweetheart. He had drowned himself, and the manner in which he had bound him self with a rope was accounted for by the fact that he was a good swimmer, Suicide during temporary insanity, brought about by the death of his sweetheart, was the verdict returned. SCHOOL MATTERS. There Was Not a Big Influx Dur: ing May. The month of May, perionced less activity, in admittances oi new pupils in the publicgschools, than a year ago. This year thirty- one new pupils wore admitted, while last year 101 entered. . This, however, was probably made up for in the fact that April was the big month this year and the small one last year. All the schools are overcrowded cin the junior and kindergarten classes, especially Cataragui school, In the senior: elass there is more room 'as, ane by one, those not intending to take the examinations are dropping out to go to work until school re- sumes in the fall. All the classes are busy in preparation for the examina- tions," which will comme nee in about | three weeks. -As . the semior pupils move forward, after passing in their studies, and the junior scholars ad + in" the places made vacant, room owill-be wade for the admittance of the new first year boys and girls in the fall. A Williamsville this year, ex- - ar teacher reported to the authorities, yesterday, that chil dren under the regulation age were working in local factories. This is a matter that should be investigated. As there is no regular | trummt officer now it is up to the police force to ere into the 'matter and stringently on- force the law. ra pe tee. * GANANOQUE GLEANINGS.
