The many virtues of common house- hold salt, which, like the poor, we always: have mearby, are so much Greek to the average housewife, wha in her ignorance imagines that the sole mission of the commedity is to add savor to food. As a kitchen disinfectant salt is in- valuable. A lump of it should be kept in the kitchen wink, where it will dis- solve slowly and keep the drain pipe pure and wholesome. When it is de- sirable to cleanse a waste pipe that has been neglected flush it freely with a strong solution of boiling hot salt water » Salt is one of the best preservatives known for .certain foods. In the form of a strong brine it will serve as a medium for keeping butter, eggs, meat and various kinds of vegetables al- most indefinitely. For removing egg stains from silver salt applied with a soft cloth will act like magic. If salt be rubbed on when they are fresh all trace will disappear in the washing, A pinch of salt added to the whites of eges will cause them to whip in half the time usually required. A pinch of salt to ground coffee just before 'cooking accentuates the natural flavor = of the berry and gives "body" to the drink. Greens used for salads should be thoroughly rinsed in salt water to dislodge possible insects or their eogs too small to be seen by the naked yy fruit staind of them eve wlien picking over the ~reens. Sprinkle salt over a dingy carpet before sweeping and the transforma- tion wrought will convice the most skeptical of the value of salt as a cleanser along this line. Everybody knows or, at least should Know, that nothing is so ef fectual for putting out fire in a burn: ne chimney as salt. To Ml weeds apply boiling hot salt water in liberal quantities. To remove grass from brick walks sprinkle fredly with salt, and let stand several days. MAMMOTH HAY PURCHASE. Crop of 1905 Cleaned Up By Frank Williams. Cape Vincent, N.Y Fale.
