A CROWN OF GLORY As Well as a Mark of Beauty is Luxurious Hair. It has been truly said that the crowning glory of our racé is a luxur- iant head of hair. It used to be thought that this was one of the blessings which the gods bestow capriciously, and it is only re- cently that scientists have discovered that its beauty is dependent upon the absence of a minute germ which flour- ishes in the hair follicles, where it de- stroys the life of the hair. To restore this life and kill the germs which cause the mischied is the mission of Newbro's Herpicide, Herpicide surely kills the ~erms, and is the best hair dressing on the mar- ket. It contains no grease or oil, will it stain or dye. Sold bv leading druggists. neither Send 10c. in stamps for sample to The Herpi- cide Co.. Detroit, Mich. G. W. Ma- Mahood, special agent. Havaln, Aug. 30.--Uigar manufac: turers are about condi- tions in Vuelta Abajo, and fear the revolution will make a good tobacco crop impossible. There is litde lenf in the market, today, as the last crop was 'a failure. Prices are soar ing, and theke "is every indication that they will go higher wmless the aevulativn is brought to an imme date sued. Business conditions are even more desperate than the political plisht," said a man whose cigars are known throughout the world. "Seed bods should be laid between the midlle of August and the mishile ¢f September, yet, on account the revolution, nothing hus been done and there is no prospect of planting. The crop is de stined to failure unless the virgin soil is cleared 'and seed beds made within three weeks. "But there is no likelihood of any quick solution of the difficulty. Two of our buyers who retuned from Pinar del Rio province, to-day, re port that the revolution is stronger than is generally appreciated in the capital. The entire district of Las Homas, the moultain range dividing the province and extending north to the Gulf of Mexico, where Antonio Maceo took refuge, is in the hands of the insurgents, while the populace of the plains in the south is strongly sympathetic. Teaders in the field assert that they are stronger than they were during the fight against Sain, and declare that President Palos would need 200,000 soldiers to preserve order. FREAKS OF LIGHTNING. Burned on Line Near Port Hope. During a recent electric storm the barn of Anson Dunbar, Perrvtown, was struck by lightning and slightly damaged, Warren Dunbar, Port Hope, was unloading peas at the barn when the shook came. The lightning came down through the corners of the barn, scattering large splinters of about Mr. Dunbar's head and also around the horses. Fortunately, fire did not ensve. Recently during an eleotric storm in Cobourg a pear tree was struck on the grounds of a resi- dence. The lightning ofter striking the tree ran along a clothesline fas tened to it, and burned some articles of clothing. During the storm a house in the west end was struck and some damage done, but it did not bien. The residence of James Lawrenceson, in Port Hope, was struck also, it is stated. One corner of the building was shattered amd a portion of the chimney knocked out. A lady living next door was thrown from her chair to the floor and rendered unconscious for a short time \ Clothes wood DIAMOND WEDDINGS. -- The Names of Wedding Anniver- saries.
