The greater part are in use only for a shart season in sum- mer. Remarkable revelations concerning the methads adopted by the Russian secret police to track down anarchists were made recently in connection with the arrest of Henry Melnek, un youth of ninetren, for stealing books from the Astor library. The theft was first noticed by a Russian spy, and it came out at Mel- nek"s trial that secret agents of the Russian government are stationed in every library in New York, Their business is to note the per- sons who call for books relating to anarchy. The chief Russian agent in each large library has under him a corps of skilled detectives, one of whom follows a suspected person as soon as he is indicated by a nod from the chief. In this manner the homes, habits, and occupations of suspected anar chists are {earned, and if the suspi- cions are verified, a report is made to the chief of the Russian secret service. Mr. Pierregaard, the chief librarian of the Astor library, states that the vigilance of the spies is never relaxed, When not engaged in shadowing an in- dividual, they remain constantly on watch in the library from the time it opens in the morning until it closes for the day. Besides watching - the libraries, the czdr's secret agents carry their sys tem of espionage to bookstalls as well, Russian ---- They Injure Your Health.
