Verona Covered in An Hour, The Kingston Yacht Club's ahnual cruising race up the Bay. of Quinte was started, on Saturday, and prov- ed a very pleasant outing for the vachtsmen. The first boat gor away Eleven Miles at 2 pm, and the others followed, on the handicap time, in a frosh breeze from about the south-west, which veered considerably on the way wp, At the Brothers' Islands, the Oweonee, Harmony and Baby Grand wore noar- ly together, when a sudden change of wind from the west gave the Baby an advantage, and from that point she kept the lead and arrived ut Preston's Cove, a winner, about five o'clock, followed by the Harmony, shortly af. ter, with the Tespi third, The Freda and Oweonee arvived shortly after, but the Verona, which suffered from too great a handicap, was late in arriving. The yachts were soon moored in the snug cove behind the gravel bar, ex- cept the Verona, which anchored out in the bay. In the evening a bop-fire was started on the shore, and the sailors gathered round, lit their pipes and many a story was told of excit- ing races and of many a pleasant eruise in which they took part. : The club's musical talent was brought into service, while Skipper Almon en. tertained the yachtsmen with selec: tions from his gramaphone, and the crows retired to their bunks after a happy evening. 'Late in "the night some of the Facdiang from the Verona gave the other yachts an energetic serenade and their music was vigorous if not harmonious. It was the intention to push on to Macdonald's Cove the next day, but as a heavy wind from the south was blowing it was decided not to cross the upper gap, and the boats put in another night at Preston's Cove, Monday morning a heavy wind from the west was blowing and the yachts mon decided to make for Horseshoe Island. - The feet' had a grand run down before the gale aml the Verona, with spinnaker set, covered the eleven miles to Channel Grove in about an hour. The afternoon was spent at Horseshoe, and the home journey was made in the moonlight, ending « jolly outing for the salormen. rhe beautiful moonlight nights were much enjoyed and. the-spivit-of -goad-fellow ship prevailing made the cruise of 1906 a pleasant memory, rn ---- Were Strenuous Day.
