He Was Born in the Township of Kingston--He Was of U. E. L. Descent--A Church Member for Nearly Sixty Years. A gloom was cast over the com- munity, Friday, September 21st, last, caused by the passing of James Wil. liam Powley. Mr, Powley was of Unit- ed Empire Loyalist descent, being a son of the late Jacob and Mary gow- ley, and was bofn in the township of Kingston, July Sth, 1531, on the same farm and in the same building in which his decvase oceurved. Ilis entire life of seventy-five years two months and thirteen days was spent on the farm on which his father, Jacob Pow- ley, settled in the fall of 1801, which was on¢ hundred and five years ago. For over a century the farm has been owned by two genkrations, father and son, which fact is Quite unique. In early fears his parents passed through many hardships and trying experi- ences, Recciving a grant of two hun- dred acres from the government, they settled first in a little log house, the site of which is still visible, and here they lived until about the year 1815, at which time they moved into the stone house in which the family now resides. At that time the country was nothing but a vast wilderness and dense forest. During the war of 1812, the father was drafted and taken from his home - and. family to serve his country; uid the Wother With her babes was left to struggle alone as best she could.
