Kingston do, unanimously and vigorously protest againgt the efforts of the authorities of the medical eollege of Queen's Uni versity, to have comvict labor em- ployed against the interests of free labor in the erection 'of any of its buildings, for 'the following reasons : "(1)-Wh reas, the Ontario lagixl ture recently voted a orant of $50,600 out of the funds of all the people of the province, for the crection of a biological department in connection with the medical college of Queen's University, it is not fair that local stone-cutters, teamsters, laborers, ete., who directly contribute to this fund, should he prevented from parti- cipation in its distribution, by the employment of non-producers, who are convi It is against the best interests of all classes of citizens that resident taxpayers should be driven away to other towns and cities, even for the short season during which climatic conchitions permit them te work, to employment in. order to sustain their homes and families and discharge their duties as citizens and ratepayers, through the greed of a much favored corporation, and the employment 'of convict labor.
