All the farmers should attend these meetings' if it is at all | possible, as many matters of importance to them will come up for discussion. Today meetings are being held at Joyceville at 1.30 pan--and Fpom; and on Thursday at Wolle Island, at 1.30 p.m., and 7 p.m. There has heen a goed supply "of meat on the market this week. Last Saturday there was' an exceedingly large amount offered for sale, and the quality was good. The offering of pork has been some- what smaller than usual, but has been ample to meet the demand. -- The shipments of turkeys to outside points have been very heavy. Thurs day is Thanksgiving day in the Un- ited States, and a large number have been shipped across the border to sup- Ply the Yankees with their Christmas dinners, On Saturday last several crates of live turkeys were shipped to New York via the Cave Vincent boat. A local merchant disposed of several fine birds to a Vankee steamer in port this week. As a rule the crews on the Yan- kee boats are well fed. Tarkeys have heen selling at, 15e., 16¢c. and 17c. ter pound, and there is no promise that the price will go down. -- This has been one of the greatest seasons on record for hay. There "has been plenty, of it, and the quality has been good. Large shipments of press- od hay have been made from King- ston, and indeed the railways have had a difficult time in supplying the number of cars regmired. Some delays in shipments have been caused through lack of cars, but the shipments of grain from the North-West have been 80 heavy that the railways found that it 'was very hard to cope with the situation. The railways have done the best they could Cars have been" scarce on the railway that quite recently at Mont- real, some goods were shipped on a flat car, at the risk of being dumag- ed by rain. But as no box cars could be secured, and as the goods had to go something had to be done. It was stated today that almost one-half of the hay crop on Wolfe Is- land had already been shipped out of Kingston. Several of the scows have had a very busy time carrying over hay for some time past. Several car goes came over already this week. The vrice of grain is quoted to-day as follows: Oats wheat, 70c., 5c. and 77c. (different grades): buck- wheat, 48c.; barley, 50c. to 55c. ; rye, 50c.. Peas, are quoted at 75¢., some- what higher than last vear. Although at present there is not very large supply of cranberries; there is no doubt but what there will be an abundance by Christmes, The rece is in advance of last year. At wholesale they are quoted at $7.50 and bushel, and retail at '15¢c. a quart. This time last year they sold at 12}c. According to reports received from New Bedford, Mass., the crop is a large one and heavy shipments for the $8 a holiday trade are being made. It is said that the amount of berries al- ready shipped in carload lots to points west of New York and to Can ada alone equals the total crop of last year and the shipments of the present time exceed the total crop of 1905 by at least fifty per cent. The. -shipments for the holiday mar kets this year. are estimated at 205. 260 burrels, The total shipments oi EE E-- me---- ultigate crop for this yeur at 260,000 barrels, A method of getting rid of stu which has been highly Fcominenlol and which, to be effective should be done now, is as follows: Bore a hole one or two inches in diameter and about eighteen inches deep into the centre of the stump. Then put into this hole one or two ounces of saltpetre. Fill the hole with water and plug it up. In the spring take out the plug, pour in about one- half gallon of kerosene oil and light it. The stump will smoulder away to] the very . extremities of the roots, leaving nothing but the ashes. --Farm- ing. The November crop reports show the 'copdition of agriculture to be in a very healthy state, An interesting experiment was re. cently conducted at Guelph, in feed- ing poultry, the fatteming crates on weed seeds being obtained from the Port Arthur elevators, a sample of which is to be seen wherein there were sixty varieties of noxious weeds re- presented. The results of the feeding of the chickens on this diet were con- clusive. Had it been, continued, the chicks would have died. This stufi, by the way, is no doubt what enters into mmch of the mill feeds being sold to the farmers for feed, and which is certainly injurious in ite nature. The best chickens this year were reared by an old hen that ran wild in the cornfield. She hatched in July, and at two months the chickens weighed two pounds each. They were fed dry in a hopper and not watered at all. They weigh four pounds now. The Toulouse and Embden geese, the ducks and the pigeons were all doing well. The houses are all com- fortable and the fowls healthy. Our - farmers, cotidd secure, mord" their poultry' and eggs if they would adopt systems of marketing that would result in the goods being guar- anteed fresh: The advantage of the crate-fed was very apparent last week at: the To rento. market, when crate-fed chick ens, although arriving late on the market, sold for £1.25 per pair in pre ference to many others at SOc. for THE FIRE BRIGADE, No Better Time Than Now For Its Re-Organization. Next Friday afternoon, the eivic fire committee will formulate a scheme for the re-organization of the fire depart- ment. As indicated before, thé pro posals to re-arrange the location - of men and apparatus, having the new assistant chief at No. 1 station; pur- chase another team of horses and add another driver to the brigade. The eity council never had a better time for the re-organization of the brigade. The last re-organization was in 1899, when Ald. Toye was chairman of the fire committee. A big advance was then made, but the present committee has a still better chance to put the bri gade on an' improved basis. Mayor Mowat has intimated that he will give all possible assistance towards increas ing the efficiency of the fire brigade. The appointment of an assistant chief is engaging attention. No one can tell who is likely to get the appointment. -------------------- Dr. Shoop's Restorative brings last- ing relief in stomach, = kidney and heart troubles through the inside nerves. Costs Nothing To Relieve This Condition. Eating is fast becoming too much a part of the daily routine, if not a mere tickling of the appetite--a thing to be gotten out of the way as quick- ly as possible. Little thought is given to "what kind of food," its effect upon the system, and whether 70 will be of use in building up the tissues of the body. Your stomach will revolt, if it is not already doing so. It must shut up for repairs. What of the diaziness, and sometimes pain, which stop vou after a hurried Junch ? at of the general distress after a heavy dinner, a feel- ing of pressure against the heart which calls a halt and makes the breathing difficult ? Ts it common for you to be oppressed with belching and sour eructations ? Are you eonsti pated and | then do you laughingly toss 'a dime to the druggiét for his most palatable relief ? Beware of tom- porary cures that are but palliatives. Many antidotes for the common ills which our flesh is heir to seem at first to relieve, but in reality, if not in- jecting poison into the system, lay the foundation for a deeper-seated and more far-reaching disorder. Three-fourths of all diseases origin- ate with a breaking-down of the di- gestion and nine-tenths of all diges- tive troubles originate with one more of the symptoms namod above. Beware, them, of Indigestion and Dyspepsia. If you fmd yourseli ach- ing, listless, lacking in ambition when vou should be on the alert, Do not 'doctor the stomach or It needs a rest from food and drugs. Do not flush out the bowels It takes more than forcing food through the passageway to make blood and tissue and nerve Do not starve your stomach. Food is a thing to be worked for all there is in it and your stomach will do the work if you will help it in Nature's way. Stuart's Dyspepsia Tablets nothing but the natural elements which enter into the healthy stomach and intestines to perfonm the function of digestion. Governmontal- tests and the investigations and sworn oaths of expert chemists attest this fact. Stu art's Dyspepsia Tablets go to the source of the trouble and positively restore the glands and fluids of the mucous membrane to their proper con dition. They promptly relieve the dis tress of mill troubles originating in the stomach or howels (with the on exciption of cancer).
