' The Whig's correspondent at Ottawa telegraphs that the Citizen, 'this morn ing, contains 'the following : **Warden Platt, of Kingston penitentiary, was fn the city yesterday. It is said Mr; Platt was here to acquaint the justice department concerning a case of small- pox that has broken out in the King- ston penal institation, A convict, who arrived, there six months ago, was stricken with the dread disease some day® ago and the authorities found it necessary to remove the patient to an isolated building on the penitentiary farm pending other arrangements. Though efforts were made to keep the matter quiet in some way the other inmates, became aware of, the breaking out of the disease and now, several dozen' convicts are complaining of illness, hinting that they are also feeling small-pox like, "Every effort is being made to con- fine the disease to the convict now attacked." In this connection it might be said that the patient is nearly better, that there are no further developments and that danger has been reduced to a minimum, The Whig was aware of the case last of the city to way nothing about it There was a doubt about it being small-pox, -------- A Twentieth Century 'Xmas.
