Franklin is being pressed by many vatepayers of Pitts- burg to enter the contest for reeve of that township, so that he can again ropresent it in the county council, Mr. Franklin will, in all likelihood ae: cot, and that he will be elected is a foregone conclusion. Winnipeg, Dec. 13.--Oflicials of the Canadian Pacific railway have decided to reduce local passenger rates in the west over a considerable ara from four cents a mile to three and a half cents a mile, or a reduction of half a cent. The territory which will benefit by the reduction ~ is that lying between Macleod, Calgary and Dummore June- tion, a short distance from Medicine Hat and Edmonton. The whole of this country, has been much settled of late and the substantial reduction will be welcomed by a large number of set- tlers and travelers, ------ To Fuy Power.
