Rev. Mr. Hassard, Field Secretary Delivers Interesting Address and Makes Strong Appeal in Support of the Work. Th: severe weather last night did not prevent a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Bible Society, held in Chalmers church. Rev. Mr Hassard, field secretary, was present, and in an address which was illustrat- od by stereopticon views, he reviewed the work of the society, and at 'the same time made a strong appeal in support of the work. Hi: address was a most interesting ome. Rev. Mr. Has. safd is a clear, forceful speaker; and he was listened to with keen attention on the part of his hearers. In the ab- semoe of the president. the Bishop of Ontario, G. M. Macdonnell, presided, and Rev. J. Charles Villiers officiated at the opening prayer Mr. Macdonnell referred to the' fact that the bishop was wmable to pre side, owing to his being present at a meeting in Toronto. Dean Farthing was also at the same meeting, and could not attend. Roth gemtiemim had expressed their sorrow at being un- able to be present. The speaker was glad to welcome Dean Farthing as a new member of the society. The chair- man also referred to the ahsence of Rev. Mr. Macgillivray, who had been detained owing to the illness of are lative, Dr. Lake, the treasurer of the soci- ety, was called upon to read a state- ment, which showed the society had a balance on hand Rev, Mr. Hassard notified the socie- ty that at a recent meeting, when some chonges had been made in regard to the different auxiliaries, Kingston had been given the privilege of dw coming identified with the headquart- ers of the sesiety in Ottawa or still retaining their identification with Toronto headquarters. He asked that the decision be made at this meeting, and hy a unanimous vote it was de cided to continue to be identified with the headquarters of the society at Toronto The election of officers was then pro- ceded with, and resulted as follows Honorary president. the Bishop of Ontario: president, Rev, Dr. Macgilli- E,W i 786-80 Brock St. A reliable and cold cure should le dhwaye in te ready for vse the moment symptoms appear Ite always camer, and better to check a cold in the very ht it afer uo, The Sale of the Season Comes Only Once a Year 25 PER CENT. Mr. Hassard said that he was well nlcased to learn that the society had decided to retain their "idemtifica- tion with Toronto headquarters. Tor- onto did not desire to have Kingston drop out. In reviewing the work of the sotiety the speaker said that although this work did not bulk as large as in the old'n davs. yet the time Lad come in Ontario and in Canada, when we must begin to realize that it must bulk larger in our minds, and that the good work should be encouraged. He refer red to the many langtaies "in Which the Bible had been printed. Last year the Bible had. in Winnipeg alone, been distributed in forty-three different lan- guages. This was the highest record with the exception of one 'place, Jo- fionnesburg. South Africa, where the Bible had been issued in fifty-three languages. A preat responsibility rest- d upon the Christian people of to- day. in that they should see that the Bible could be read by everyone. A great deal was heard about "Canada for Canadians." It was time that 'this selfish ida was given up, and the motto, "Canada for Christ" taken un. He referred especially to the form- ation of the Bible Society. the print- ne of the Bible and the difficulties in translation. The great qrestion to be weked in this wark was this: "Are we doing our best?' He urged that still greater effort be set forth At the close. on motion of Rev. Mr. Manning and Rev.
