Leonard, M.P., interested in a smelter at North Bay, called on the premier this morning, and stated that 'the final shipment of machinery for the new smelter was now on the Atlantic. Mrs. Jane®Kern, London, fell on the sidewalk while going * to church one Sunday in October, 1905, the accident being due fo a broken plank. She sued the city and obtained 600 dam- ages. The city appealed to' the divi- sional court which, to-day, dismissed the appeal. Patrick Conley, a farmer, was kill- ed by a Michigan Central train while ¢rossing the track, with his rig ab- out six miles east of Windsor. His widow sued the company and got $3,000 damages. The railway carried the case to the court of appeal with the result that, to-day, the judgment was reverséd and the case against the company dismissed. The trial of the London election conspiracy case was set down for the assizes, to-day, but a Rosthonement was granted on the application of E. F. B. Johnston till May 6th. Me. Johnston's application was on the ground that the defence had not had time to prepare its case. Mr. John- &ton asked that the venue be changed from Toronto to London, but this was not granted. He suggested also that a commission go' to South Africa to take the evidence of W. T. RB. Preston, but the court refused this also. INCIDENTS OF THE DAY.
