Organization to Oppose the 'Lord's Day Alliance. With a view to counteracting what was termed the "tyrannical and re- strictive'" efforts of the Lord's Day Alliance there was organized in To- ronto recently the Canadian Rational Sunday League, which aims to be an extension of the English National Sunday League. The following com- mitfee were appointed to formulate the definite plan of organisation: Dr. Goldwir Smith, Messrs, H. P. Dwight, Jas. L. Hughes, Major W. H. Archard, G. A. Graham, L. Rob- ertson, W. OC. Fox, W. J. Moody, J. 8. Granatstein, D. W. Livingstone, D. G. Lorsh, E. Meek and J. Enoch Thompson. A resolution which was passed fully outlines the result of the discussion among those present. It reads: "That it is desirable to organize an association similar to the London Na- tional Sunday Leagpe for promoting healthy and innocent recreation on Sundays, and to opj tyrannical and restrictive legislation. regarding Sunday, and it is felt that recent legislation on this subject has been carried too far, interfering with in- dividual liberty to an extent: unknown in any other country under the Brit ish flag. That this association be called Rational Sunday League, and that its declared objects be: To pro- mote rational Sunday reereation, to secure the opening of picture galler- ies, museums and ing #ooms on Sundays, to provide music on Sunday afternoons in the parks or other con- venient places, to obtain legislation al- lowing a charge to be made for popu- lar Sunday lectures or concerts, restrictive legislation re- USE ONLY THE BEST lstesTANDARD article READY FOR USE IN ANY QUANTITY. Candidates Lining Up Already For the Next Election. Alberta's voting force in the next Parliament of Canada will total sev- en, and candidates are lin- ing up in the various constituencies. A new constituency, taki in a gregt expanse of territory, is Victoria, and rumor tells us that Duncan Mar shall, manager of The Edmonton Bul- letin, and the prince of stump orators in Sunny Alberta, will be the Liberal nominee. Marshall, who is known to most in Ontario, "caught on" very q ly in the West, an an nouncement that he is going to talk, fills a building. , Dr. Mcintyre, the present member didate again. R. Lavell, ex-M.P. for one of the Lanarks, is now prac ticing law in the city of Strathcona, and he is mentioned as the man who will carry the Borden banner, Scramble For Nomination, In Red Deer there is already a scramble for the Liberal nomination. J. T. Moore, M. P. P,, once a To- ronto alderman, and the man after %/] whom Moore Park, a Toronto suburb, is christened, has a strong following. "John T., "ops he is best known here, is an orator. Words fall from his lips as freely as water ses over the Falls at Niagara. e is ambitious. Another Red Deer man, George V. Smith, a native of Nova Scotia, is eager to wave the Liberal flag. The Tories of the 'Red Deer riding seem to favor Gillmor of Lacombe, son of a former Commons' represen- tative for one of the Middlesexes. Cornelius Hiebert, one of the two Tories sitting in the Alberta Legis- lature, also has his eyes on the Ot- tawa seat. Chosen by Patriarch, By the way, it is said that Robert son, the Tory leader in the Alberta Legislature, was chosen by the patri- arch of the House, J. P. Marcellus of Pincher Creek, Robertson and Hie- bert, who constitute the party, left the choice to Marcellus, a red-hot Lib- eral, who claims to be a descendant of the Romans. 'Calgary is now represented at Of tawa by Maitland 8. McCarthy, a re- lative of the late D'Alton®McCarthy. He was elected an M. P. after less than two years' residence in the West. He is generally admitted to ba the strongest man in the party in Alberta, and is mentioned as leader of the forces in the next provincial :elec- tion. That he will again contest Cal- gary is certain, and that he will be opposed by. Dr. Stewart, who was the Liberal eandidate in 1904) .is also ad- mitted. Frank Oliver is 'a stroug force in Alberta, and this province is pretty certain to give him at least five out of seven peats. Canadians' Adventures. Two wealthy Northwest Camadians who went to England in December holidaying, were robbed at London in January of £215. By pa clothes they settled their ar bails, and walked to Cardiff, where they expect- ed money from Canada. It--did not arrive, 80 they got work on a tramp steamer for a voyage to the Mediter- ranean, On their return, destitute, they were kept several weeks by a man in humble circumstances until the arrival of long-delayed funds, and have just sailed for Canada.
