It seems that the health officer, according to the statement he made to the od, was told 'by a parent that he __ had unknowingly allowed some of his children to go to Louise school while others in the house had measles. It was on this report that the health officer wrote a posteard to Miss Lovick, drawing her attention to the matter, and requesting that she carry out the statute in regard to re- porting to him. The school principal replied on a postcard that it was un- true that some of the children of the parent in question had attended class- es while others of the family were sitk, and made another statement that the health officer claimed reflected upon the board, as he was only car- rying out its orders and the law. He ti ght the board should express it- Dr. Evans moved, seconded by Mr. Lemmon, that "this board has learned with surprise of a reply sent by Miss Lovick, principal of Louise school, to an official communication of the medi- cal health officer, in regard to infecti- ous diseases in the public schools, and the obligation of teachers in schools to observe the law as to reporting the existence of such diseases in the schools; and that a copy of this re- solution he sent to Miss Lovick, as indicating this board's sense of the impropriety of her conduct," Mayor Mowat said he thought that perhaps too much was being made of the matter. If such a resolution was required, he would vote for it, but he didn't think it was. The matter might be adjusted otherwise. Dr. Ethering- ton also said that he was opposed to the resolution, as a "mountain Probubly boing made out of a mole- il Was The medical health 'officer said that it would be in. the interest of the hoard and its officials to adopt some kind of resolution. All other school principals reported regularly to him as to contagious cases in their schools, but the principal of Louise school was not carrying out the law in this re- gard. The resolution was adopted, Messrs. Corbett, Evans and Lemmon voting yea, and Mayor Mowat and Dr. Eth. erington nay. The board decided to instruct the medical health officer to send to ev. ery teacher in the schools, a notice based on section 103 of the health act, pointing out teachers' 'duties in re porting contagious disease cases.
