Card, Wolfe Island, met with a very painful accident a few evenings ago. The oil in one of the lamps in his pool room ran low, and in at- tempting to replenish it, he accident- ally set fire to his clothing, severely | burning his arm, as well as some of | the furnishings of the room. But for | the presence of mind of an onlooker, | more serious results might have fol- | lowed. ---------- Finish The Work. There is now talk of erecting a steel | verandah on the west side of the city | buildings to replace the old wooden one just removed. The cost would be |8500. The old verandah was a great convenience to the market people, who seem lost without it, on a rainy day: Whatever may later be decided upon, it is the unanimous opinion that the city property committee should put the sides of the market building and grounds into respectable condition | without any dilly-dallying. Let the wotk be completed with a rush. ------ Convicts To Be Deported. ! A prisoner named Harrison, who is servins aterm in the. penitentiary is to Le deported next week, He hails from the United States, and comes under the new law as undesirable. Al- though he has served omly a short portion of his term, he is to go back to his native land. He will be sent to Detroit, where the United States au- thoritide will take charge of him, and deal with him as they see fit. Another prisoner in the penitentiary here is also to Le deported shortly. Stop The Unhealthy Practices. The unhealthy and dirty practice of some residents throwing refuse water, ete., into their yards, cannot be stop- ped too soon. Ilomes with sinks that carry the water into the yard, form- ing cess pools, needed to be attended to. The board of health ordered the practices ceased, and it is hoped that those in authority will see that the board's action is carried out. The city will be healthier if the practices are stopped and provision made for drainage for the houses that lack in that regard. ---------- | Band In The Park. By permission of Lieut.-Col. R.
