During the reign of Louis XI., of France there was attached to his court one Abbot de Baigne, a man of considerable wit. The abbot was some- what musically inclined and delighted the court with inventions of odd mu- sical 'instruments. One day the king, after having enjoyed a hearty laugh over one of these curious contrivanc- es and dusiring to baffle this musical genius, commanded him to produce harmonious sounds from the cries of hogs. This seemed an impossibility to the king, and he prepared himself to enjoy thé discomfiture of the abbot. Much to his surprise, however, the ab- ot readily agreed to produce them. All he required was a sum of money, upom receipt of which he declered he would invent the most surprising thing ever heard in the way of musi- al atrocity. He scoured the country and secured large number of hogs, trying théir oices as to pitch and quality, and, inally, having fully satisfied himself, e arranged the animals in a sort of avilion richly decorated. The day of he trial arrived, and the king and hia ourt' entered the pavilion prepared or semething, but greatly in doubt 8 to the success of the abbot with he hogs. However, there were the hogs, sure nough, and, much to the surprise nd delight of the king, they com- nenced to cry harmoniously and in ood tune, rendering an air that was irl esoguised, The abbot, hag ar- a series of sto - Were onnected with fhe ope and upon ulling one of them out cau a bike to prick the hog it connected ith, making him squeal his note. The st was easy, for by pulling out the ifferent stops he produced the tune. The Bishop's Job, arper's' Weekly. An army of this sort of victims have one by one discovered that Peruna could be relied upon to re- lieve such cases. ©C.o man tells nother man, and in this way the mews spreads until in all parts of the country are to be found men who have been permanently liber- ated from the thraldom of catarrh of the bladder by acourse of Peruna. The president's address was strong and full of force. Mr. Skinner pointed out the necessity of the Anglers' Asso. ciation, and dwelt at considerable length on the absolute protection to fish in the local waters. A general discussion followed the speaker, and reciprocity for interna tional poaching was entirely eliminat- od from the talk, an unusual happen ing for the anglers. The question has been dropped by common consent, and actual concurrence of fishorman for the preservation of the fishing rela- tions between the United States and Canada. Restriction of fishing was brought up when an interesting passage of arms ensued, and the matter was dropped, inasmuch as the continuance of the discussion enhanced the safety of the reciprocity question.
