John Campbell Paterson died at his residence, Union street, at two o'clock Friday morning, after years of trying illness, having suffered at least six strokes of paralysis, each 'one leav- ing him more helpless, so that his death was really a happy release. Nr. Paterson was a native of Stirl- ing. Scotland, and although he loved the land of his adoption, he never wong Scottish institutions and the scenes of his vouth. He came to Canada in 1873, and en- tered the serviee of the Merchants Bank "of Canada, in Kingston, and ten years later was appointed manag- er in Walkerton. He was also manag- er for some years in Gananoque and Owen Sound. He retired from the bonk in 1900 and came to livp in King- ston. Three vears later he suffered his first . stroke of paralysis, and ever | since, was more or less of an invalid.
