Says the Duke and Were Identical. Hamilton, Ont., Nov. 18.-- "The Duke of Portland and Thomas C. Druce were undoubtedly one and the same person. I know for a fact that Druce did not die in 1864, and when the casket was placed in Highgate cemetery it contained nothing but lead. Druce simply became tired play- ing a double role, and went back as the Duke of Portland, actually dying fourteen years later." 2 Such is the statement of William Huckle," detective, now living here, who worked for years on the now fa- mous case. When first put on the case, Huckle tried to intervigw the manager of Baker St. Bazaar, bat he could not be found. He was nearly killed once by toughs, hired to frus- trate his attempt to get information about the false funeral. He asserts a woman who knows much inside infor- mation was shipped away, and is now living in Canada, not iar from To- roanto. Huckle is leaving next week for England to give evidence in the case. Old Druce MARE IN SAD PLIGHT. ---- Whinnying of Colt Led to Its Rescue. A mare owned by Jobn Corbett, bardware merchant, was in a sad plight on Friday morning. While in a field neat Kingston Mills, the animal got into a marsh, and was unable to free itself. The little colt following its mother commenced to whinny most piteously, and this' led to the poor animal's rescue. Thomas Carson was out shooting in that vicinity, and when he heard the noise, he at once went to the sceme, The animal could not move, and was only released with the assistance of a stout rope and a team of horses. The colt made all the noise it could, and when the mother was released dance around in great glee. The mare suffered to no extent, as the result of her experience. STATION ON FIRE.
