Verona, Dec. 16.--(To the Editor): Is not the market clerk trying to make himself popular at other"people's expense ! Being a farmer 1 went to the eity and offered butter .on the market. About ten o'clock the clerk came along and carried away a print of my butter. He tame batk ia a few minutes, sayin it wi 1 in weight, and iad . aby sell until the magistrate reached court, I lea¥hed after, that he weighed my butter om a pair of scales of his own, which is not lawful for goods must be weighed on the public market scale. However, the case came before the magistrate, and he told the clerk to weigh the butter on the public scale, and when he did se, it_was all good weight but one pound. He took the light print, one out of forty pounds. He had also deprived me of npe bour of selling, for which 1 lost five, cents per pound on the but- ter, with no recompense. Whether this be a fair thing I will leave it for the public to say. The high rates on the railway and. such things as happened me go to hasten the change when the people of Kingston will have to go to the stores to buy and they will not be eo exact abeut weight or price.-- Yours, A SUFFERER.
