Won the Round By 18 to 8 Changes in the Soldiers' Team Did Not Strengthen It As Was Expected. Queen's 11 won the first round of the intermediate Intercollegiate series, by defeating Cadets 1, at the Kingston rink, on Wednesday eventng. The score at hall time stood 9 to 3 for Queen's, and at a full 18 to 6. The cadets were outplayed all through the game and the changes they made in their team did not benefit them much. Dur- ing the first half the game was quite fast, the first two goals going to ca- dets, but they seemed to go to pieces after that, and the last part of the game was a walk-over for Queen's Queen's defence put up a fine game. Hazlett and Donahue doing great work. Their forwards worked together better than they did the first game, and some fine rushes were features of the game. For the soldiers Green and Holt were the stars. At point Holt put up a good, strong game, and suc- ceéded in' connecting with some good ones. McLennan did not appear to be in as good form as he was. on Friday night, but made some fine stops. The teams lined up as folfows : point, Lockett; cover, Meikle: centre, Grange, rover: B. On Friday evening local lovers hockey will be able to witness of the best games of the season, Queen's and Varsity clash in their first geme' of the season. The two games played last Friday clearly show that the cup lies between these two teams and Queen's will put up a great battle to win. Both teams have been working hard all week. Queen's had a practice on Wednesday, and will hold a 'tight workout to-day. The bovs are hound to win. The Mic-Macs, a city league team, have arranged a game with the ligers of Gananoque to be played the early part of next week, A. meeting of the executite of the city basket ball league will be held at the YY M.C.A., on Friday evening, when several matters of importance will be considered. ' The local curlers are glad to see the cold snap, as many games have yet to be pulled off. Toronto, Jan. = 23.--Miss Lacned, aged forty-five years, a nervous pa- tient in the Western hospital, escaped from this institution, last night, clad only in her night dress. She ran five blocks to the home'of W.
