The tolls on the roads have been abolished, but the city continues the iniquitous tax upon those who market their goods in Kingston, That is a small circumstance, how- ever, compared with the proposal that the women of the country, the hard- working wives of the farmers, shall not only be the slaves of the women in the city. In conservative circles it is freely stated that there is no love between J. H. Metcalfe and W. F. Nickle, * the former not forgetting his defeat by Hon. William Marty in 192, and which defeat he placed upon the local conservative leaders for not giving him their aid. In 1902, Mr, Metcalfe had to fight a lone battle, and was surprised that he got as many votes as he did. The tory leaders deserted him on that occasion. Now, so well informed conservatives say, Mr. Met- calfe will not allow W. F. Nickle to be: the standard-bearer. He is willing' to step aside only if Mr. Nickle does and agree on another candidate, Died At The Home.
