William Ryan, ur. hotelkeeper at Shannonville, wag charged with nine offences of selling liquor to Indians, on the dates of March 28th, April 3rd and 6th. W. S. Herrington, K.U., prosecuted, and William Carnew, of Belleville, defended the accused. J. G. Ramsden, inspec- tor of the Indian department, was present and gave evidence. Seven of the charges were dismissed, but upon two charges, namely, supplying liquor to Charles Walker and Isaac Mnraele, both members of the Mohawk tribe, convictions were made and a fine of $50 and costs in each case was ' im- posed. Before the court arose, Mr. Carnew, on behalf of the defendant, gave notice of appeal against the con- vietions, and these appeals will be heard at the division court, ' which meets at Shannonville on June 16th.
