THE SPORT REVIEW - -- No Interest Shown in the At- tempt to Revive the Game--A Local Teams For the St. Lawrence Baseball League. The lacrosse meeting called for Mon- day night, at the Armouries, was can- celled, and = the lacrosse proposition will likely be dropped, as far as the ith officers are concerned. The ofii- cers have done all in their' power to get a team together. Twice they have called meetings, when ome or two would show up. If there is to be any lacrosse played here this season it. will Le played by a team like last year, st made up among the city boys in general. It is toa bad that a geod chance to revive lacrosse has beon let slip, as it is a good game and had lots of followers. Sm -- St. Lawrence Baseball League. A meeting of the Sti Lawrence Base- dhall League: will be held on May lst, to' draw up a schedule and transaet other business. The local team has not been all. brought together vet, but it is to be hoped that a goed nine will be secured to enter the league. If the local player mule is adhered to, Kingston ought: 0 put as good a ball teém as any in the field ---- Victoria Day Game. The various games for Victoria day are not yet fully decided. There will likely be two ball games, one in morning and one ia the afterdoon. the a-- } '"'Chaucer' And Lacrosse. "Chaucer" Elliott, of the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association, who is spending a few days in the city, re ports everything to be going fine in Montreal. "Chameer'" has taken charge of the Jacrosse team and will, if given the proper support, make a success of it, as he has of the other teams he has taken hold of in the peasoup city. Rink To Open Soon. The work on the roller rink floor is being rapidly finished, and there should be skating in a very few days The large planer from Toronto will arrive shortly and be immediately put on the floor. Sporting Notes. The Canadian Derby candidate, Mee- lick heads the list of winning horses in America, having already earned $185,600 this season. Napoleon Lajoie, manager of the Cleveland "American: League baseball team, and the former champion bats- man of the world, will retire from his position as the head of the Naps next. year, J Promptly following on the defeat of Hackenschmidt by Frank Gotch, af Chicago, a challenge has been. de- spatched by the huge Galician Zbys- co to the vidter, who, by virtue of his win, holds the fitle of world's champion. Gotch will accept. The owness of the Pittsburg Base ball Club deplore the fact that more use of free passes was not made among the Smoky City aldermen for last week." By a vote of thirteen to eleven it was decided to recommend alfiomatively an ordinance taxing the Pittsburg Baseball Club 875 for every game played in that city. Hamilton lacrosse team is about ready, Brantford has made a. good beginning, and St. Catharives is sc situated that the lacrosse flower can burst inte bloom whenever desired, but there is yet no fourth team in sight to make up the C.L.A. senior series. Toronto offers no alluring prospect for another professional team when it already has two in the N. The London Times, discussing la- crosse veform in Canada, says the elimination ;. of the professional alto- gether would be the better course, and adds that while Canadian la- crosse is still the best in the world, the gap is rapidly closing up, and the time is not far distant when an Australian or English twelve will be able to hold its own against. anv re presentative Canadian team.
