It is also the motto used on the | 2 British coat of arms. Various stories are-told as to the origin of this title | in connection with the order, and the one usaally tea is as follows : King Edward made up his mind to have, like King Arthur, Ament "five of the hest and com knights, ge voted heart and soul to"hih and his service, so he determined to Sound an order. There was then living a very beautiful and equally good ly, the Countess of Salisbury, whose husband was prisoner of war in France. The countess oceupied a castle near the border hetween England -and Scot- land. She was a favorite with the -- king. In the year 1343 there was a iy great ball given at Windsor Castle, Many of the notables of 'the realm were present. When the King and Queen Philippa enter the gay throng drew back. The king led his fair queen to the throne, and turning toward the court and without a mo- ment's hesitation, offered his hand te the beautiful Countess of Salisbury. They started to dance, while a rip- ple of a smile ran through the court and the queen frowned. But they stop- ped suddenly, and the countess' face flushed. She hesitated, but the gallant Edward was too quick for her. Grace fully kneeling he picked up the blue embroidered garter his partner let fall and bound it about his own knee, As he rose he did not fail to see the meaning looks of those about him. Drawing himself up to his full height, prouder, statelier than ever, the king took again his fair partner's hand, and, pausing, he said, slowly, signifi- cantly, and in a voice that filled the hall, all eyes hending to the Hoor be- fore that haughty gaze : "'Honi soit quit mal y pense." Lit- tle words, trivial indeed, but they be- came the motto of the greatest and proudest military order of the. power- ful British empire, so that in every corner of the earth, where goes her coat of arms, it is encircled always by the garter of the fair Countess of Salisbury, with these words that now have a so much broader meaning : "Evil to him who evil thinks." health or disorder." If the stomach or its juices are out of tone, the blood is fermented by a change in the alkaline or acid condition, and these reach the month hoth dircetly and indirectly. "The taste buds are in the tongue, ahd are mounted by hairlike projee- tions called papillae; they cover thé] surface of the tongue." "When you taste these buds rise up and absorb the liquid; inform the nerves; the nerves toll the stomach, and the food is deeeptable or not, just as the stomach feels.' The above remarks on taste comes | from an eminent authority and sim- ply explains why when one smells cooking or. sees food one thinks he can cat, but when he tastes he learns') the stomach is out of husiness, the person who cannot taste who relishes no food and sim- ply. forces himself to eat, Stuart's Dyspepsia Tablets hold the secret of enjoyable cating, perfect digestion and renpwed. general health.
