St Catharines, Ont., April 28.--Wal- ter Blizzard, on trial before Judge Carman on a charge of bigamy, secur- ed several remands, chiefly because of the difficulty of obtaining the evidence of Rev. William C. Gates, Lockport, N.Y., said to have conducted the cere- mony that united Blizzard to Alice Krick, previous to which the accused had gone through another ceremony with Mrs, Goff at Niagara Falls, N.Y. After being brought to trial it was discovered that before the ceremony with Mrs. Goff, Blizzard had been mar- ried to a Miss Maloney, of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and that the real wife was now living in Chicago. 'Bliz- zard-sent word to the crown attorney that he wished to change his plea to guilty, #and desired a speedy trial. He was accordingly brought into court, yesterday afternoon, pleaded guilty of bigamy, and was sentenced to two years in the penitentiary. Guilty at They Can Appeal. Wolle Island, April 26.--On Saturday morning the death occurred of ome of Wolfe Island's most respected citizens, in the person of Michael Lacey at the home of his daughter, Mrs, Herbert Dawson, at which place he had been since last September. Deceased had been ailing all winter and death was not unexpected. He passed peacefully, stirounded by all his family. He was aged eighty years. His wifosprede- ceased him about three years ago. He is survived by five. daughters, Mrs. P. Kane, Mrs. Matthew Flynn, Wolle Is- land; Mrs, E. Cough, Watertown, and Mrs. Otis Robinson, Cape Vincent, and two sons, Daniel and: John, on the island. The deceased. gentleman was also a brother-in-law" of James McGlynn, treasurer of the Conserva- tive Association. His funeral took place this morning to the Church of the Sacred Heart and was one of the largest over seen on the island. The many friends~ of Mrs. Edward O'Rielly are pleased to know that her condition is very much improved and that her cheery countenance will soon be seen again. The bright little son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Grant, who was injurod recently, is rapidly im- proving. Mrs. Maxim Greenwood, Sr., is about to erect a thrée hundred dollar fenco around: her property on the cot- ner of Church and Main streets. Michael Griffiw is getling his speedy trottér in shape for the 24th of May, Philip Ryan has the coutract for add- ing the improvements to the Silver Spring factory, Miss McAdoo, after spending - & couple of 'weeks on the island, has roturned home.
