On Thursday evening a pleasant event took place at the office of La. Brock street. Charles McKay, formerly secretary of the Gentlemen's Driving Club, came from Toronto in the morning, and his fellow members hearing he was in town-tould not let him get away again without showing him how much he was missed. A large umber of members were present, and it the right moment W. H. Carson, topped out and in a néat speech, pre- sented Mr. MoKay with a hardlsomo gold split second stop watch. Mr. McKay was taken entirely by surprise, and was overcome by the kindness of vis friends. ' He recovered himself 'suf- iciently to make a neat reply, thank- ing tho boys very kindly for their re- membrance. Mr. McKay's removal from the city was a great loss to the association. The sports committee of the Victoria day celebration met, on Thursday al- ternoon, in the office of J. Morris, Ontario stieet. The Marathon race was the main event congidered. Dr. J J. Harty has written to the Canadian Amateur Athletic Union for a sanction for the race. Jock also has presented a fine cup to the committee for the race, and W. F. Nickle has also offer- ed a cup, and Con, Millan a gold medal. Everything points to having a big entry and cverything now depends on the weather, and if it turns out fine a bunch will be entered for the event. "Chaucer" Flliott will also bring a bunch up from Montreal. -- Y.XI.C.A. Notes. An unsuccessful attempt was made, yesterday, onthe three-mile city re cord, by R. Day, of Y.M.C.A. Har- riers. There was a strong wind blow- ing, but otherwise the weather condi- tions were ideal. Day made a grand run. The time, oe miles, follows : 1st, 5.15; 2nd, 11.25; 3rd, 17 min, 21 2-5 S0CS. Day's fastest mile was the first, he covered in 5.15. The record is hald by L. Larush, who covered . the distance in 17 min. 11 3-5 secs. Kingston's two MARINE NEWS. Found About Wharves. The schooner Ford River will coal at Oswego for Robert feed. The steamer Dundurn was due up Thursday night but did not arrive, She will be in to-night. The steambarge Westport arrived at Richardson's elevator this morning. She will load grain and freight for Rideau canal ports. The steamer Alexandria is due at Folger"s wharf from Montreal at 7:30 o'clock 'to-night. There will be considerable local freight for the ves- sel to take on here, Within the next dew days will be a rush of grain for the M. T. Co.'s elevator. A half million busha's of grein is logked for. The steamers Glenellah and Kenora are due to arrive on Saturday. . Capt. Joremiabh Hurley, of the schooner Acacia, was given a fine mew hat: by the harbor master; at Erie, the occasion being the first. schooner to énter that port this season. Capt. John Murray, arrested for drunken- ness some days ago, was given an- other chance, in the police court this morning. Murrdy met with an acci- dent after 'his arrest, which required medical attention. While going through the big door, at the police station, he had the misfortune to have his hand jammed, and one of hjs fingers was severely injured. He bas fully recover- ed, and in the police court, the magis- trate told him that he had better take better care of himseli in the future, and not appear before the court again. A Literary Evening.
