Ottawa Journal, The Royal Canadian Regiment bands from Halifax and gston have been engaged to play at the Toronto ex- hibition this summer, and there are al- ready ominous rumors to the effect that the Musicians' Union, working through the members of the bands of the Toronto regiments, will make trouble with the regulars. The bands men of the regulars apparently are not members of the union, and there is talk of a general strike of Toronto bandsmen if the Halifax and King- ston then are permiited to play at the exhibition. It is reported that if there is any trouble of the sort. the minis ter of militia will call in the uniforms of the Toronto bandsmen and thus el- fectually deprive them of pay which in the year round amounts to a tidy sum, a course of treatment which would be amply justified. We havo seen in Ottawa that this Musicians' Union is in the habit of doing very unreasonable and tyranmical things. It is, in fact, a reproach to sane unionism, and could not he too efice- tively disciplined; cither b¢-the militia department or by the level-headed lead- ers of organized labor in "Canada.
