There were some beau- tiful pictures . by Watts, who has striven to uplift the masg of the peo- ple by his art. Of the old masters there were many Madonnas shown, surrounded by saints and angels, exquisite in coloring, and as the lecturer again and again pointed out, wonderful in the simpli- city and in the purity of profile, in the graceful lines of the robes, in their reverent, religious feeling. Fraulein Stolle, a true artist herself, for she painted every one of her slides from the original, not a line or a shadow or a light being lost, pointed out, as each picture came on the screen, some detail plain to {the artist oye, but liable to be missed by her audience.
