The burns received on Friday al ternoon by little Hilda Clay, the two. year-old daughter of Albert Clay, Well- ington street, proved fatal, the little tot passing away at the general hos pital at 2.30 o'clock, Saturday morn- mg. The child suffered intense pain from the time of the accitlent until ber death, which occurretl after everything possible had beet: done to relieve her, but the shock proved too much for the frail young body. Just how the accident happened will never be fully known. Mr. Clay said the child's mother left her im a room alone for only a moment while she laid her baby in its cot, aul when she returned found the «hild in flames. The mother at once tried to save her little one andi so doing was hesseli son erly burned around the arms and breast. Dr. Keys was summoned, and had the little girl removed to the general hospital, where she passed away. The death of her daughter was a great shock to Mrs. Clay, who is in the Hotel Dieu, being treated for the burning she receiverl.
