Chatem Kellar board of health by lis used for the fact that last evening was prayer- meeting night in all tid churches, the attendance was remarkably good. The interest all through the mbetings has been well sustained. The address 'was delivered by Rev. Dr. Buchanan, of India. His theme was, "Let this mind be in you which was also in Jesus Christ." In the opinion of the speak- er, it is not easy for the natural man to have the Christ-like mind as his ideas and ideals are so contrary to the spirit of Christ. Selfishness, ove of vain-glory,, pride, ambition, = appetite and ot are all opposed to Christ, have the Christ-like mind if we are to be either useful or happy in this world and promoted to glory in the next. In the after-meet- ing, presided over by the pastor, brief addresses were given by William Ander- son, D. A: Shaw and F. G. Lockett. The meeting this evening will be ad- dressed by Rev. J. D. Boyd, of Zion Presbytérian church. and yet we must THROWN From HIS HORSE. Battéryman Had Exciting Time, But} Escaped Injury. A member ofthe battery was thrown from his horse, on Wednesday after- noon, and had a remarkable escape from being seriously hurt. The accident occurred while some of the. men were out jumping hurdles, practicing for military sports. While the horse was sbout to go over the hurdle, the animal stumbled, and the man was thrown off. The horse made the hurdle all right, but the driver's foot became caught in the stirrup, and the animal zalloped off, leaving the man Na a very dangerous condition. And it was only by great presence of mind, that he was able to save him- self from being seriously - injured. Throwing up his hands into the air, he was in this way, able to keep nimself clear of the ground, and giv- ing an alarm, some of his comrades soon noticed his dangerous position, aml immediately came to his rescue, He was not injured, but the acci- dent was a most thrilling one for him and one which he will not soon for- get. Hig escape from serious injury, if not death, was miraculous. ICE CASE IN COURT. Ladies' Tailoring and Dressmaking. BO00N0000000C00 0000000000000 CRORIOIN GENERAL DELIGHT. Gauthier. It is rumored in Ottawa that Arch- bishop Gauthier's coming to Ottawa will make importent changes in "On- tario, reducing Kingston to a bishop: ric and alsc affecting the Peterboro bishopric. A despatth from Ottawa says the of: ficial announcement of the appointment of Archbishop UGauthier, of Kingston diocese, gives general satisfaction there. The opposition voiced by the local French daily is not shared by the general French population of Ot- tawa, The appointment is hailed with great satisfaction by English-speaking Roman Catholics. There are some heart burnings among French-Cana- diane who would have liked to see a French-Canadian get the appoint ment, Mgr. Routhier, administrator since Archbishop Duhamel's death, said, "I cannot say when Archbishop Gauthier will get here. There are about priests in this diocese, but when the ceremony here will take place 1 do not know. The last ceremony of that kind was when the late Archbishop Duhamel was consecrated in 1886." A Jong distance message to the archbishop's palace, at Kingston, this afternoon, elicited the reply : "Jt will take his grace, at least, a month to wind up his business here, and it will be that long or possibly nearly two months before he can go to Ottawa." There is the very liveliest specula- tion im Ottawa as to the rumored changes in the diocese. It is asserted that the bounds of the Ottawa diocese are to be enlarged to taks in King: ston and Peterboro and that a bishop to be connected with the Montreal arch-diocese will be stationed at Hull.
