The students of the medical faculty university experienced a great privilege Thursday morning when Dr. W. H. Park, director of the board of health research laboratories, New York city, spoke to them in Con hafl, on "Acquired lmmun- Park visited { on it Queen's voeation ity." Last spring Dr. Jucen's and delivered a serics of lec turcs which were so extensively ap preciated that the university senate did honor to the doctor by creating iim an honorary graduate of the umi- versity. His address on Thursday morning was a scholarly, scientific product. For one hour Dr. Park talked of im- munity, both acquired and hereditary, [Te minutely described the develop ment and production of anti-toxin. He pointed out the absolute necessity f a periodical moderate injection in the case of typhoid, stating that a lumping of the ejections would be apt to cause death. Dr. Park told of the frequent presence of manifold bacteria in the case of pneumonia and how the "gun shot" or combined anti-toxine injections were necessary. Medicine defines' immunity as active and passive; active when formed with in the body itself; passive when it is of 20 to 10.
