WENT ON THE LIST, And This Gave Him a Chance in Police Court. ' Because of the fact that he promised to go on the "prohibited list," a young man, who was up in police court, to-day, for being drunk, was given a chance. His case was adjourn- ed for a week, but if his name is en- rolled on Inspector Wright's list by that time, he will not have to come before the court again. The magis« trate looked up the records, and he found that the accused had been before the court about two years ago, and informed him that he had heen drink- ing too much, He would give him a chance to go on the list, and thus save a fine. He promised that he would put himself on the list, but he did not appear to take to the pro- position very well. The tea and sale, in aid of the X-Ray's fund, of the Hotel Dieu hos- pital, at Mrs. Peter Devlin's, 44 Will iam street, on Wednesday afternoon, was a decided success, despite the in- clement weather, which one soon for- got when inside the bright home, where blazing grate fires and numerous mek low candle and gas lights made all seem like fairyland. The hostess, Mrs, Peter Deviin, and Mrs, Joseph Swit, president"of the Ladies' Auifliary, received, at the entrance of the drawing room. The tea-table beau- tifully arrahged, was festooned from chandelier to the four corners of the plished table, with pretty loopings of yellow satin rithons. The centre pibce was white satin, handpainted sprays of yellow wild roses. A eut glass bowl, ok yellow chrysantheums and aspara- gus vine, artistically arranged, made a perfect contre floral design. Mrs. F. J. Quinn, Mrs. Edwin Beaupre, Mrs. Edward Ryan and Mre. M. A. Metcalf poured téa and coffee. Those assisting in the tea room were Miss J. Brown, Miss Irene Swift, Miss Tot Gallagher, Miss Kathleen Fergu- son, Miss Muriel Metcalf, Miss Kath- lee Ryan, Miss Eleanor Quinn, Miss M. E. Shaw, Miss May Bolger. At the home-made table, Mrs. Mec- (irath, Miss Annie McGrath, Miss (VRielly, Mrs. Duffy, Mrs. Lovitt, Mrs. Myers and Miss Marie Lovitt, most enthusiastic workers, were found mak- ing profitable returns from the sale of their tempting dainties. The doll table was one of the places of interest. Miss Hunt and Miss Fran cis Devlin and their noble little work ers, Miss Mamie Mallen and Miss Mar jory Devlin, did a good business. Miss Lalonde, of Potsdam, N.Y.,, won a doll on Na. 12. The fancy work table, with Mrs. Mec- Moran and Mrs. | wards, assisted by Misses Tootsie" and McCormack, made good returns, isn A. Kane, Miss May Tierney and { Miss Agnes Martin were indefatigable in thal ir efforts to secure a bumper, house for the Orpheum theatre for to | morrow, Friday, November 25th, af- ternoon and evening. The Orpheum has been given over to the Ladies' Auxiliary for the above date for the benefit of their X-ray fund. The handkerchief table was looked after by Miss Ita Martin. This brave little maiden did wonde rfully well. The musicale was a grand success. Those who kindly helped in the good work were Miss Irene Swift, Miss May | Tierney, Miss Agnes Martin, Miss Frances Devlin, Mr. Hurley, Mr. Cross, Miss Irene Harris and Miss Phylis Dev- lin. Frank J. Hamilton, the retiring house officer of the Y.M.C.A., was waited on by a number of persons, on Wednesday night, at the building, and presented with a purse of gold, a gift from: the directors and members of the institution. The presentation was made by Roy Ward, on behalf of the members, who spoke on the good work and faithful service which Mr. Hamil: ton had rendered the boys, directors, association, and everyone, and regret- ted very much that Mr. Hamilton had found it necessary to leave the Lime- stone City. Mr. Hamilton had an inkling of take place, but what was going to was taken off his.guard. He respond- ed in a very neat speech, thanking those interested for their gift, saying that while he was leaving the city, it was not through any fault of the in- stitution or anyone 'connected with it, but because he had received a better offer where he was going. Mr. Hamilton was deeply touched by their appreciation of his work and said he.would long remember the Kingston Y.M.C.A, He leaves either Saturday or Mon- day for his new field of labor at Leth- bridge.
