CRIPPEN. i A i Bomestic Relations Led} Murder---The Confession Been Made to a Turbulent to the Said to Have Friend, London, Nov. 24.--The Evening Times, hestdes publishing what -pur- ports to be a confession, declares that | the knife which Crippen used in muti-} lating elle Elmore's hody was buried in the garden of the Crippen home at 39 illerop-crescent, North London, and will soon be found, I'he Times puts these words into the mouth of Crippen: "My wife was a bad-tempered woman and led me a dreadiul tide, of which even wy most intimate friends did not know. "I was patient with her for years. [ strove to hide our turbulent domes- tic relations. However, what I said in gourt about her threatening to feave me for another man was true. She made that threat to me nnd she onstantly humiliated me. 1 had not thought of killing the woman until I was goaded to desperation and sud- deuly realized my position. When the blank hopelessness of the thing dawn- ed upon me I became desperate." The Times, continuing, relates the balance of the confession in the third person, 'at no time quoting Crippen saying that he killed his wife. According to the story, Belle El more, after returning from America, boasted to her husband that a rich man aboard the liner had offered to i support her. Crippen demanded, through his | clenched teeth the name of the Ameri {can who had made love to her. he Times then dragged in the name of P'ruce Miller, the Chicago man, making Pelle Elmore Crippen = say Crippen did not know that, while he working hard in London, she was in America spending evening after evening in the company of her lover. Crippen related that thereafter he deased to live with his wife; that they maintained separate apartmenis in their home. Crippen found a congen- inl companion in Ethel Le Neve and sought her company frequently. In the course of time he came to love hier deeply. For some weeks before January 31st last, says the Times, (¥ippen's mind had but one thought, wd that to get rid of his wile. At the time Belle Elmore was. g from indi ti very stout, She comp ai ned and asked her husband to prescribe some- thing to reduce weight. He gave her pills gold by the American Med- Agency for which he was work: Through January he said, she more and more troublesome, until he finadly determined to poison her. Ihen he bought the hyoscin and prepared the deadly pellets, sim- ilar in appearance to those she had been taking. This was after Janu- 8 are Sst. A party was given at the Crippen home on the, night of January 3lst. After the party, Crippen said his wife azain began to boast of her love con- quests. Crippen, goaded to despera tion, hurried to his office early on the morning of Fepruary 1st to prepare a more deadly tablet. He was deter- mined, said the Times, that his wife should die that day. That evening, fw vhen he returned home he found his wile dressing and no dinner ready. | The same evening he, izave her br owerfal dose of lhyoscin. Made in 98 different styles.
