Prevention of Sealing In Behring Sea Proposed, Washington, D.C., Feb. 17.--Action was taken bv the senate committee on foreign relations, which, if sustained by Se senate, will not only put an end to pelagic sealing in faring Sea, but will also stop the killing of seals on shore for a period of years, The committee ordered a favorable report on the draft of a tréaty between Ame- rica and Great Britain, providing for the protection of the seals in this manner. It is based upon the. de- claration of experts that the seal herd, now nearly exterminated, will be completely restored to its original strength in the course of a few years if left completely undisturbed. Russia and Japan must make similar treaties to make this effective. At Stella, Amherst Island. Mime Absolutely Denies Accusations. In the Glebe Presbyterian church, (Ottawa, on Sunday, Rev. W. H. Milne made a statement regarding the attack made om him in the Jouse of Commons by Col. Samuel Hughes. He intimated that the statement was a personal one to his congregation, and he had no desire to give it further blicity through the press. Mr. Milne, however, said : . "I regret exceedingly, for your sake, that my name unwarrantably has been bandied about in the press and on the floor of the House of Come mons. The char that were .made against me on January 3lst and on Fridav of last week, I have already denied, in the presence of my brethren of the ministerial association. With a full knowledge of where 1 stand, I wish again to state that those charges are absolute falsehoods. There does not live in Ottawa, nor ever did live, a man to whom I ever gave in any shape or form the slightest informa- tion regarding the political leanings of my people. For thirteen years I have gone in and out of some of the homes of this congregation; others, mot so long, because this has been a growing congregation, and some of you have only known me recently. But I am strong in the assurance that you could not believe me guilty of such conduct. Unless something. unforeseen occurs, the matter here closes so far as I am concerned."
