Minnesota University has taken up lacrosse and will play its first game within the next few weeks against the strong St. Paul team. Only four clubs were directly repre- sented at the meeting called to organ- ize the Omtario Lacrosse Association, and the business was passed on lo an- other meeting to be held next month. George Bonhag, the peer of American distance runners, has hung up his shoes, after one of the most success ful campaigns of his long career. Bar- ring the Baxter mile, in which he was running out of his distance, the "in- door king" did not taste defeat. In this race "Jack" Tait, of Toronto, beat the Irish-American wonder, which was won by Kiviatt. PISTRIBUTION OF TICKETS For "The Rosary" is Thing. The problem of distributing 175 com- plimentary tickets for "The Rosary," at which performance the prizes will be given to the Frootenacs, among sev- eral hundred subseribers, is what is perplexing those who have the thing in charge. One who only subscribes a quarter or fifty cents cannot reason- ably expect a dollar seat, but some provision must be made. Employees of factories who have subscribed cer- tain amounts camot be overlooked. A suggestion has been made and is being carried out, that for every dol- lar which has been given a ticket will be given in return. Thus if a certain factory has subscribed $10, ten tickets will be sent, and those at the head of the factory may give them out any way they choose. It is said in most places the employees draw for them. a Difficult QUESTION OF SITE Was Discussed by Mowat Memorial Committee. There was a meeting, on Monday af- ternoon, of the Mowat memorial com- mittee, when the question of the site of the new tubercylosis hospital, came up for discussion. After about an hour's discussion it was decided to leave the matter over until a meeting of the board of governors of the gen- eral hospital was held, on Thursday afternoon, when the question will be taken up again, and likely be finally decided upon. The question is one which has been much discussed. The matter was -be- fore the board of health, at its last meeting, but the board, on the request of the board of governors, asked that no action be taken until the board of governors had been heard on the mat- ter. Now the governors are dealing with the question. ------ An Important Question, Ought the porters of sleeping cars to be allowed to "raise a dust" in the cars every time they go around to collect their gratuities ? This is a question which is agitating both the riers and the gemeral public in the Jnited States, for the medical faculty hat arisen and demanded on sanitary grounds that the "hold-up whisk" of the porters be abolished. It is now probable that on various big railway systems this will be done. Doing a Good Work. There was a meeting of the Woman's Aid, of the general hospital, on Mon- day afternoon, with the president, Mrs. W, Newlands, in the chair. All the . reports were of a most emcourag- ing nature, showing that the good work was being continued, and with marked success. There was po new business before the members. The la- dies are putting in a complete set of dishes for the private wards, New Bandsmen Arrived. Three new bandsmen have arrived from Campbellford to join the ragks of the Salvation Army band here.
