Some bave thought that Mr. McFedridge intend- ed to convey the meaning that he was not in favor of the Sunday schools or the Y.M.C.A. having any- thing to do with the formation of any such organization of this sort He did not intend to convey that meaning. What he meant was this That the Y.M.C.A. or Sunday schools this kind in themselves. JONES, Railways and Canale, ment of ] Ap March ist, 1813. ine L. The C.L.C. Baseball Club held its first meeting of the season im the of fice of the company, last evening. Dr J. J. Harty presided over a meeting of about fifty supporters of the team. (hdl .L.C's failed to land the cuy last season, but will go after it in pretty strong fashion this year. These oflicers were elected : Honorary presi- a dent, Hon. Wilham Harty; honorary vice president, C. Bermimgham; presi- fut, Dr. J. J. Hartly; ¢icepresyient, William Harty, Jr.; manager, Witham Kennedy; seerctary-trsasurer, William Wilson; official scorer, MH, Jonis; mas ¢ot, A. Shea. It was agreed that the manager and secretary-treasurer should be appoint- ed to attend the meetings of the exe wutive of the City Baseball League, and in case they were unable to at- tend, the captain should go. The team were very fortunate in securing the services of Herbert Dickson as cap- tain for this season. He was out of town nearly all last summer, and, re- turning near the close of the seasom, played a couple of games with the Victorias. He held down the position of first base for them, and will likely occupy the same position for the C.LC's. Brown and Mathis, the bat- tery, are absent, but the team has some dark horses in view to take their places. Esford, who played third base two years ago, is here again, and wall play this season. Wilson, Laird and the two Ewarts will be im place this season. This accounts for six men for this year's team, and the three others will remain in the shade until the sea-' sou opens, OPENING OF NAVIGATION. Harbor May Not be Clear Until April 15th. "This weather makes it hard to figure out just when navigation will open," remarked a leading mar- ine man this morning, 'but surely it will be open by April 15th." There is a great deal of painting to be done on the boats, but this weather is keeping back the work. The Ridean above Barker's Point is clear of ice almost to "Kingston Mills. = There are fifty-two men engaged at the Davis shipyard The Steamer Nevada. The steamer Nevada of the Mer- chants' Mutual line, which has been in the Kingston dry dock all winter will soon be fitted out for the com- ing season. She will be given a tho- rough cleaning, and will receive a new coat of paint, besides having other repairs made to her fittings. Quarantine Boat Nearly Finished, The steel quarantine boat, which has been under construction at the Kingston Shipbuilding fompany's dry dock since early last fall, is nearing completion, and will be a handsome boat. Every part is of steel, even to the cabins, and finish- ed in white. The hull is finished, ind men are at work on the cabins The huge boiler has been here for a week, and will soon be installed Most of the plates were made in Collingwood, the headquarters of the company, and fashioned and put to gether here REVOLVER SHOTS HEARD In Early Morning Hours on Rideau Street. In the early hours of Friday morn- ing three revolver shots were heard by people living out Rideau street, but they cannot be accounted for The good citizens of that neighbor- hood were disturbed from their slum- bers, heads were popped out of the windows in an attempt to see what all the fuss was about, but the mat- ter is still a mystery. The residents are sure they heard the revolver shots. To Be Caretaker. Papers have been forwarded to Ot- tawa asking for the appointment of David Hanna as caretaker for the 5th Field Battery Mr. Hanna has been doing this work for the past five years, and has rendered good service. He is an ex-member of the R.C.H.A., and served with the bat- tery in South Africa. Previous to coming here, he was an American soldier, and saw service in the Philippines. +r. Hanna has many friends, who will be glad to learn of his appointment Auxiliary Kept Busy. Trainmen on the Grand Trunk say that th& auxiliary at Belleville has beem kept busy clearing up wrecks since the wreck at Collins' Bay on January 23rd. The small spill at Marysville is the last one. They have been going all the time, and the work is very hard. When they start at work on a wreck they do not know rest or sleep until the line is cleared. Good Sleighing Again. The sleighing is good mow, both in the country and in the city. Last Saturday the farmers came to mar- ket with sleighs and found the sleighing in the city very poor. This Saturday they will find it all right. At Sharbot Lake there is three and a half inches of snow on the level. ° Creamery Will Continue. The creamery at Cape Vincent was badly damaged by fire, but not com- pletely destroyed, as reported, and it is stated that the factory will go on with the work, and the patrons on this side will be able to. secure their money just the same. Taken to the Pen. Deputy Sheriff Benjamin Watter- worth, of London, arrived in the city, Friday morning, with a young man named Frank Mitchell sentenced to the penitentiary to three years for theft.
