Thiamond: Will be Rolled Saturday' Morning--Mercantile, Meeting Last Night--Other Sport Notes. * Every thing is in readiness for game on Saturday, at the opening of the City Baseball league. Preparations have been going on for the past few wotks until now the last stroke has peen done, with the exception of roll- | ing the diamond, The officers of «+ the league aie looking for a larger attend- ance at the opening game, if it is fine, than has ever been 'there before. They are also looking for a record collection. The largest collection last season was a trifle over $70, but every- ope is looking for $100 tomorrow. Those who really enjoy a good base' ball game will drop in their quarter, | for . they say the game is worth it, hut it is hoped that those who do not | enjoy it will at least drop in a dime, There was a surprisingly large -num- her of nickels in the collections last year. The league is thankful for these but they think the games are alleast', worthndime. Cit zens are once more re- quested to support this orgamzation, which has done so much to bring amateur baseball to the front in this aty. : de Will Roll the Diamond. The rain to-day will put the dia- mond at the cricket field in very bad shape for the opening game on Sat urday. The diamond is of heavy clay, and the rain will make it very, packy. It will likely be rolled "to-morrow, morning about six o'clock. This aid the drying very much. ~ St. Thomas Won Again, "Chaucer" Elliott's St. Thomas (eam won again in the Canadian émse- | ball league game on Thursday, de- feating "Knotty" Lee's Hamilton team by 4 to 3. "Chaucer" played right field and made two kits at three times at bat. Guelph again beat London, 6 3, and Berlin wofi from Brantford by 13 to 6. Mercantile Baseball Meeting. The executive of the Mercantile base ball league had a meeting last evening | for the purpose of receiving entrance fees from the different teams. Printers wusted to have their team changed from the six o'clock to the five o'clock schedule, claiming that it could not play at six o'clock. Their request was not granted however, but ' it is probable that their 5" en will © be played at five o'clock, the op- posing team can play at hai time. Fair Grounds Need Repairing. It is said that the baseball diamond on the fair grounds is in very bad condition, and will have to be fixed ap before the games are to be played on Victorin day. 'The circus, * which was there last summer, cut the ground up in a number of pldces, and made. the place very uneven. Theres: were officials up at the fair grounds Thursday. looking over t and they were to decide her a new diamond should be chosen. Athletic Record of Classes.
