The live Coals added another {they have made this season by skin ping the Printers at the junior dia mond at the cricket field, Wednesday evening. This makes the fourth straight win for "Jack" Stansbury's i pirates, who have been setting a [he avy pace all season. The game was very exciting, though it could not be said that great deal of class prevailed, al a for and I'he Printers as were shout the worst this season, and the bad work was due to lack of practice. Holland and Thornton, two new men composed the battery, and Holland in the box received poor support. The Live Coals had a new twirler in the person of "Chalk" Rae, and he did good work. "Jerry" Hunt pulled ofi a few of his old-time spectacular plays and helped to liven the game considerably The heavy hitting of the Live Coals was once more apparent, and was very effective, putting them on a good | basis. The junior diamond where the game was played' was very rough and the result was:a great number of errors. Seore by innings : Live . Coals. Printers Live Coals--B. Spaulding's =ink lost by 18 to 12, and J. W. Corbett's by 12 to 1. Won by the Isis. The second race for the Bruce Car- ruthers trophy, which was postponed ten days ayo, on account of lack of wind, was sailed from the yacht club house, on Wednesday afternoon at four o'clock. As the wind was very ligh, one round of six miles was count- ed a race, The finish was>-Isis, 6.37.25 Heather, 6.38.30; Kathleen, 6.41.15. The Isis had to give the Kathleen 5, shight time allowance, but not enough to give the latter the race. Saturday's Game. The mighty conflict between the LAL.s and Victorias, which ia to come off, Saturday next, at the ecric- ket field, will be positively the most interesting game of the season. Both teams are on an equal footing, and neither seems to be able to get ahead of the other. Both teams are doing hard and faithful practising this week, and when they face each othér, Sa- turday afternoon, nothing will be lacking to make it a perfect exhibi- tion. Game Thrown Out. At the meeting of: the executive of the SS AAA, Wednesday evening, the protest entered by Cooke's over the game last Thursday-¥vening, was awarded, and the game thrown out and ordéred to. be replayed. The pro- test was over George Stagg, who played. with Brock street without hav- ing a certificate. Application for the certificate was not made until after the game. It was not decided when the game is to be replayed, as there is to be another meeting of the exe- cutive to decide whether the player in question. shall be allowed to. play in the re-play. Field Day Changed. The date for the field day which the S.S.A.AA. contemplates holding at Lake Ontario park in August, was changed from Saturday, August 19th, tot Wednesday, August 16th. The Sa- turday which was first chosen would interfere with the city 'league game, and Wednesday was looked upon as being more favorable. Game This Evening. Retailers and Civil Service clash at the crickdt field this evening in the Mercantile series. The Retailers have hit a hard #0 far this season, and they are scheduled to come up against a team which has Set an equally hard pace. Both teams will be in good condition. Played Under Difficulties. The Printers and Live Coals, who played at the cricket field, Wednesday evening, had to play under trying One of the city league #0 the teams were forced to hike to the small diamond near the court house. Here some juniors were practising and they would not relinquish their hold' there, so the game had to be played with two men on each base and horde on the field. The Metantile teams were very sore over the treat- ment Nanded out to them. -------- 5 Athletics Won in Napanee. You will please pagdon me for taking your time with this question, but the Josing team in- gists upon having some eminent au- thority on my ruling, and they have protested the game. "Trusting under the circumstances you wifl favor me with a speedy re- ply, and wishing" you every success in your present duties." President Barrow wrote from New York as follows : "Friend Sullivan: Your letter of July 13th to hand and noted. The question you submit caused quite 'a tthe CONLFOVersy several Vears Ago. It was 'at first decided as you decided it, ard as I think it should be de- cided, but it was afterwards changed by the presidents of the American and National Leagues and the rules com- mittee, so that now the run is allow: ed to count. I enclose copy of in- structions on the point to my um- pires. Trusting I have made things plain to you and your clubs, and thanking you for your good wishes." Clause No. 23 taken from in- structions for Eastern League um- pires, says: If a runner on third ase scores before a thind out is made on a runner at either first or second, trying to return to his base on a fly ball, the run counts.
