Brennan Insurance Company Settled Between Parties. The ease of Mrs. Honora Brennan vs. Anglo-American Fire Insurance com- pany, has been settled between the parties. Mrs. Bremnan owned a house and barn in the neighborhood of Westport, which were totally destroy- ed by fire about November, I9V10. I he insurance company, without give ing any reason, refused to pay the loss. Later, when Mrs. Brennan's so licitors applied for payment, the com- pany still refused to pay the loss. They demanded the formal proofs of After - considerable difficulty, which caused delay, these proofs loss were duly forwarded to the com: pany about June Ist. The company still refused to pay, without giving any reason, and it wis necessary to issue a writ. The company, in ils defence, set up as a reason for net paying the loss tht formal proofs of loss had not been forwarded within wix months and thidfconsesuently 'the plaintiff could not recover. The case was made ready for and the glneral manager, when amined in Toronto, last 'week, not give any reason why the, pany refused to pay the loss. Notice of trial was served on Friday, loth inst., and arrangements were made to set the case down for trial at the assizes on October 24th. However, on Friday afternoon the solicitor for the company, and the company's adjust er, A. T. Hawshaw, came to ning- ston, and settled the matter with Mrs. Brennan behind the back of her solici tors. An appointment was made witih Mrs. lrennan, who can neither read nor write.
