Ome of these will have its hendquarters beyond the great lakes, and will deal with matters which per tain wholly to the west, The eastern section will continue to be gentred in Ottawa, and will deal with "questions affecting the east. When Mr. Borden toured the prairie provinces last summer he explained his poliey fully in this connection, and he now intends to supplement 'the pro- mises he then made. The rearrange ment of ihe work of the board will be made very shortly, awd it is very likely {hat the commission, as con- stituted' at present, will continue to den] "with eastern matters, a new board, with headquarters in Winnipeg, being created. The name of C. A. Magrath, who st for Medicine Hat in the late par liasment, is being mentioned for 'the chairmanship of 'the western board. Alexander Haggart, who resigned in order to permit the Hon. Robert Ro- gers to sit for Winnipeg, is also a likely member of the commission, as is M. 8. McCarthy, the vx-member for Calgary. Richard Linthicum In the New York World. You have heard of mighty Casey and the famous Mudville nine, How the herc of the diamond crisis was a "'shine"; How with bat in hand 'he heard the fans a mighty greeting shout And heard the umpire call two strikes, and how he then out. Well that was not a circumstance to what took place of late, Right here on our own polo grounds, oh, sad and cruel fate; When the famous Ath-a-letics faced the Gi'nts great pitcher, "Mat" -- Dh, would it had been Casey, and not Baker at the bat! in a Eight short innings had been finished, and the game was closely fought, But the Gi'nts had the advantage, with a score of one to naught; And although the Ath-a-letics on the. day before had won, When this same geever, Baker, hit the pill for a home run, Why, that was off of "Rub%," who put one square across the plate 4nd could not happen to a man like Matthewson, the great, the 'score was one to nothing; he would hold them down to that-- Such was the "dope" all home fans, when Baker wenf to bat. There was ease in Matty's tanner, god a smile upon his face, As he wound him up an inward curie, no batting eye could trace-- When "Zam," a ball west' sailing by, as if out of a gun, A through express that makes no stops this side of old Home Run, omewhere the sun is shining, some where the crows are gay, Somewhere the bandy are playing--in Phil-a-delphi-a; Down in the Quaker City jollity and fun, But here it's just like Mudville since Baker's great: home run. THE PLANS COMPLETE FOR GREAT MISSIONARY MOVE. MENT TO SWE CITIES ----t) Both in Canada and the United States--To Seek to Get Christiane ity Out of Cold Storage. New York, Oct. 27.--"We are suc ceetliug in getting Christianity out of cold storage; the Men and Religion Forward Movement is sweeping the country. Results so far have been Wghly satisfactory." This is the gist of a statement made by Henry Rood, publicity secretary of the Men and Religion Forward Movement, which was recently launched in Minneapolis, and which will be carried through se venty-six cities in Canada and the United States between now and next May. According to Mr. Rood, who has Just returned from the west, there are interested in the movement, as nearly as can be estimated, between five and six million men and bors, a larger number than have taken part in any other one effort of the kind since the crusades of the middle ages, with the single exception of the re formation. * Preparations for this continent- wide campaign have been under way since May, 1910, when there was created a national committee of ninety-seven, cansisting of representative business men of all the Protestant commun: ions from every section of the land Under their encouragement, a local committee of one hundred men are looking out for nearly seventeen um- dred auxiliary towns and villages. The ohject. of the movement is two- fold: To arouse the religious spirit among men and boys in the hope that they: will bring it into their practical daily life, and, as Mr. Raod expresses it, "to get Christianity omt of cold storage, putting it to work in the community for the betterment of conditions surrounding men and wo- men and children." ° there is TO DINE MRE.
