Alwa ve VS MAD DAD] to hockey, and as the first hockey jolt of the season Kingston fans are made aware of the fact that right here the chances of a semior O.H.A. team are mighty slim, The departure of Duvid- son and McCammon for the west, on Monday, took away the stonewall de- fence of the team which did so. much to help the junior septette to victory during the past two years. It is quite likely that both men \will go into "Tommy" Buins' newlf®organized league there. McCammon has secured a position in Burne' 'men's furnishing store, while Davidson will work at his trade as machinist. This has taken five of the last year's players away from the team, and un- less "Jim" Sutherland can get some of the old material out again the like- lihood of a winning senior O.H.A. team this year is mighty slim. Hunt is with Queen's, Millan with Ottawa College, Marchand has gone to Cleveland, and the two recently de- parted ones have gone west. Kings ton did not. think enough of these two star players to see that they got good jobs, although Bums thought they were good enough to send a man down from Calgary to gei them. With five star players gone, what is left ? Brouse as rover, Boyer on the left wing, and a possibility of Leo Williams coming down from Torouto as soon as the season starts for goal- keeper. Three men out of a team of seven of the fastest players who ever stood on skates. Hyland available for one defence position, but who could be- obtained for the other side is not known. "Eddie" Hiscock could probably induced to come out and guard the nets. While some peo- ple are looking for 'Doc' Weicker to be Hoyer's team mate on the wing line. Weicker is not so speedy as Mil- ilan, but he is a terrible back-checker | and undoubtedly would be able to hold ithe wing position all right. Ji is understood "that 'Reg' Craw ford and George Richardson are avail- {able for the team, and with this ma- terial at hand, if they will work to- gether, a team should be pulled to- gether that would make a good show- 'ling. It is too early to conjecture what will be done in the way of pull- ing.the team together, and 'the fans who supported the team so loyally during the last two years that they were vietorious, will await with inter test the first ice in the rink. The City Has Everything to Gain and Nothing to Lose in Guaran- teeing the Bonds of the Hotel Com- pany. 7 One of the most important measures in the history of Kingston will be submitted to the people on Thursday for their approval or disapproval. For years the want of a modern, up-to: date hotel in Kingston has been sad- ly felt. The injury inflicted to King- ston's advancement cannot be esti mated. We know of at least one large "business concern that may leave hing- ston unless better hotel accommoda- tion is secured. The executive will simply not come to hyingston unless hettér accommodation be providid. : ~ On this beard ar®™ men who are ac customed to stop at the best hotels and receive the hest service. We have no doubt there are others in the same situation. To avert ' a calamity of this character should be the duty of every citizen. The present hotel pro- ject seédms an admirable one. "The city is not asked to contribute one dollar. It simply stands as a guar- intee of the hotel company's bonds 'to thé extent of one hundiéd thousand dollirsfend for this it receivis a first mortgage on the building and land to the extent of three and one-half adrés. This seems a deal where. the city has everything to gain' and nothing to lose. Opportunities of this character do not rap at our door every day. livery property owner should grasp this chance and support this hotel by- jaw. It will advance the value of real estate. lt will biing outside eapital to the ¢ity. It will be an ornament and a pride to Kingston and it will remove that which has long been a source of humiliation to every citizen of Kingston. For twelve long years a number of patriotic and devoted citizens real 'zing the great loss sustained by Kingston for want of hotel accommo- dation, have been struggling faithiul fully to remove this shame and want. Hardly a year of these twelve ims passed but precious time and labor has been expended on the hotel project. There were many difficulties in the way. The great dilliculty was to secure a proper site. Time and again the project failed, because a location could not be secured. Three vears ago twenty-nine of these men who had labored long and had faith in their city, bought the Carruthers lot, paying theréfor twenty-two thou- sand five hundred dollars cash. In addition to this they are now putting bin an additional twenty thousand dol- lags necesdiry to purchase the fifty thousand of stock in the new hotel For this they are getting serip, good only when the city's bond guarantee is satisfied. It is not often that eivie faith and devotion has gone further than this. ! The by-law declares that the city of Kingston shall be represented on the new hotel board by its city solicitor, at present D. M. McIntyre. The King- ston Board of Trade will also have a representative on the hoital board. Under the eareful direction of these representatives, the interests of the citizens will be well guarded. It 'is utterly impossible that now or at any time the city can lose ome cent by the transaction.
