A pile of old rubber, copper and lead was brought into the police court, on Thursday morning, by Constable Ar- neil. Herbert and Percy Conway, youths, and brothers, were accused of stealing the exhibit, bat they denied the charge, and the case 'was enlarged for a day. The goods, soit is claim- ed is the property of David "Zacks, tink desler. and not 1. Zacks, Princess street, as inadvertently. stated in the Whig Wednesday, in referring to the cake. The goods were valued at $4. A twelve-year-old lad, who was call: ed a witness, told about seeing the two lads accused of 'the theft, hiding rubber and copper in'a lumber pile in the Kingston & Pembroke railway vards. The lad informed a voung man named Frank Hepburn, employed by Susman & Cohen, and Hepburn took the ink to Susman & Cohen's estab- lishment, and later it was claimed by Zacks, and the police investigated. The magistrate reprimanded Hepburn se- verely, for his action in the matter, stating that he had no right to take the goods away from the hiding place and that it was theft on his part. Herbert Conway told the magistrate that the theft had been committed by two other lads, and mentioned their names, Both stoutly denied this charge, and the magistrate allowed the case to stand over for a day, in order give them a chance to fight the as case.
