A very pleasing event took place on Wednesday morning, at the residence of Mrs. James Uappon, Barrie street, when a purse of gold was presented to Miss (i. Strange, by the eity members of the Charity Uirele of the King's Daughters, and three vice presidents, in recognition of twenty-one years ot faithful service as of that cir cle. In a few graceful fitting words, Mrs. Cappon, who, with Miss Strange, was one of the original members of the circle, and who was most energe tic in collecting the money, presented the purse, expressing the wish of the contributors that Miss Strange would represént them at the first general in tes national convention of the King's Daughters, which is to be held in Louisville, Kentucky, May 10th to 14th, leader With the Bowlers. Well, what are those leisurely gentle- mon, the bowlers, doing, preparatory to their summer sport and pastime? For one thing, the green in the col- lege ground, is being attended to. and will be placed in good shape. Then the annual meeting will be held in a week or so, when the officers will Be elected, and the "ball" started rolling, which can be none too soon for most of the bowlers. The bowlers have been organized for some years, but last season was the most successful of any. There are now about fifty members belonging to the club, and the limited size of the green rather retards much larger growth, Field Not for Baseball, A meeting of Cueen's athletic eom- mittee was held on Friday afternoon, to discuss whether or not the athletic field should be rented this summer. A deputation from Bethel Sunday school, consisting of Rev. Mr. Mershon, and Gearge Mills, 'was present to see whet! that field could be obtained for baseball purposes, but the commit- tee decided that it could not be used for this purpose, The YM.C.A. was given the privilege of using the field on condition that it did not use it for baseball.
