Mr. Rowell is receiving cpngratulations from every quarter, At % time when elections are at least two years distant, and while there is nb heat of combat, Mr, Rowell has chosen sto visit five places in Ontario' within a week and to discuss with electors live provincial topics. Last summer he and a large party of liberals visited New Ontario, but that trip was for the purpose of waining information and of seeing the: development. of the north country even more than to deliver speeches and discuss provincial issues, although that too was a part of the programme. On this occasion. however, Mr. Rowell has frankly considered polit- ical topics and has made his audience acquainted at first hand with the lead- ing issues of the day. He spoke at Princeton and Bright in his own rid- ing, in North Oxford. and in North * Mr. Henry Black. Several definite effects of the tour are noticed. Tax reform 'has been discused in its various phases, affect- ing both rural and city constituencies, and by making this subject the lead ing topic, Mr. Rowell has given conclusive proof that he stands four- square in favour of this progresive 8 { legislation, for which there has been " Isuch a general demand, but which has been turned down by the comnserv atives in the Special Taxation com mittee and by Sir James Whitney him- self. One of the remarkable features of the tour was thie very evident change in the attitude of the people towards Sir James. Apparently he 1s no longer an invineible hero, but has made him- scli actually npopular in many places by his reactionary stand.
