The Kingston cadets line up for the last game of the finals, with the same men as here, and a margin to their credit. Regiopolis age not so for- ltunate. That aggregation has a two-pofut lead to overcome, and even with this disadvantage may spring a surprise in the Queen City, as it did against Collegiate Institute in the finals of the Kingston group of the series. Kingston must have [at least ome championship this sea- son. Sacer J Basketball Games. H. R. Raines, physical director of the Y.M.C.A,, is arranging for bas- ketball games with outside teams. Laumaster spoke at Bethel church on Wednesday night on "Doubts and How to Deal With Them." The subject was dealt with in a most practical way, The speaker cited a number of persons' whose names and deeds were recorded in the Bible, who, by reason of their doubts, were enfeehled in their work for the Lord. He also remarked that many good people were troubled with doubts of one sort or another, but that there was no necessity of hold- ing on to them, but rather get ri of them. Doubt is no man's friend. Doubt never made'a hero or launched an enterprise. It is not by doubt that things are brought to pass, but by faith. There is a difference between a doubt and a question of enquiry. A little child is a walking interroga- tion peint, but it is not a doubter. Men must define their doubts, face them, and give a reason for thin being in their minds. It is a manly thing to get rid of all doubts, for a dou does not necessarily suggest wisdom. Dy reason of doubts that exist in the minds of many people, as to things pertaining to God and things religious, they are in no posi- tion to be of service to mankind, and many are kept out of hégven who 'will not give up their doubth. : Mr. Laumaster spoks to a meeting of women in the atternoon at three o'clock, on the "Spirit-Filled Life," and 4.15 o'clock to a hundred child- ren on 'The Good Shepherd," at which time twenty-three boys and girls signed cards deciding to live the Christian life. The last afternoon Bible study will be held to-morrow afternoon and Saturday night a leo: ture on the Holy Land will be given by the evangelist, to which all are welcome. » BR. AND O. APPOINTMENTS. The Old Commanders Have Been « Again Chosen. Capt. E. A. Booth will again com- 'mand the steamer Kingston, of the R. and O. Navigation company. The steamer Toronto will be commanded by Capt. C. E. Rediern, the Rapids Prince by Capt. George Batten, and the Belleville by Captain William Bloomfield, The chief officers of the running on the Thousand Islands and St. Lawrence division will be the same as last season.: The. steam- ers on this division comprise the Ameriea, New lsland Wanderer, Ro- mona, Néwshoy, Thousand Islander, Pierrepont, St. Lawrence and Jessie n Owing to the heavy travel last sea- son on the steamers Kingston and Toron(d of 'the Toronto-Charlotte- Thousand Islands-Montreal route it is announced that the steamer Roch- ester will run on this route this season in conjunction with the two other steamers, H. H. Gildersleeve, manager of the western lines, who makes his head- quarters in. Toronto, arrived from Sarnia yesterday and will assume his duties in a few days. THE MANY PROPERTY SALES. Are Great Aid to City Assessor in Fixing Valuations. The large number of property trans- this year (seventy-two in January and February) have been a reat aid to the city in fixing values for the coming assess- ment, in which he is to be assisted by two valuators. + The city's as re- of the reftent time, owing to the great boom in property. Instances of com- ing increases in assessment come to hand every day. One piece of land, time, was assessed day it sold for steamers at $800, The o 181,300, which fixes ita new assessment value. There is such a demand for properties that prices are being paid, and as ton's assessment in based on actual selling value, some buildings will advance almost fifty cent. of their t assessment. Bt is roughly calculated that the in- ¢rease in © assessroent of- build ings already erected will yield the Jeity $10,000 more in taxes next year. TR ------ DEAN J. OC. NEWMAN & SHAW THE ALW AYS BUSY STORN. E-- TO HAVE A REAL JOB. Vice-Presidency of United States No Longer Lemon. Woodrow Wilson. who has been provided with a long jaw so that he can say things he wants to say with- out straining the mechanism of his face, is about to show you something brand new in the lemon business. Woodrow has decided to chuck into the garret, to destroy and wipe out the prize lemon in American politics, In other words. the vice-presidency is to be no longer a lemon. In his administration the vice-president will amount to something! In the past it has been that official's duty 10 reside in Washington and to pre side in the senate, while listening to the deriding of the public, He was the human and hairy zero fn the pro blem. He knew he had been given the job because nobody else wanted it. His only chance of enjoying poli- tical activity wag to hope for a cer- tain use of the cemetery by the presi dent. This, of course. he was always too humane to do, But now Mr. Wilson, wielding the famous jawbond, anuounces that Vice-President Marshall. who neither drinks nor smokes, is to sit in the cabinet circle and offer advice just As any real cabinet minister does. It is a revolutionary thing At last a vice-president has to think! Heres tofore, the best thing such an offi: tial did was to sink--sink into ob] security. Now he will have to think «without obgucrity.
