Great Thoughts I'nere is always a certain amount of enchantment about a beautiful character. We all know what it is to meet those whose quality and beauty ot character we admire and esteem. How it thrills us with the dignity of its gracious mystery, its rare, delicate sympathy, its natural charm, Everyone in this transitory life of ours has in his or her mind the ideal of what he or she would like to be, and the loftier and nobler the ideal, the most godlike will the character become. Egch character, with its beautiful thoughts and beautiful actions is an exquisite proof, a living practical witness on earth' of the power and glory of God. What is the effect of a strong and beautiful character upon those with whom it comes into contact? In the first place, it is the divine inspiration which aspires in the hearts of others ward the love of moral beauty. In the second place, it is the ex- ample of such a character, with its tremendous influences for good, | which cannot be overestimated. It shines forth with radiant beauty | like some bright serene star, guid- ing with the glory of its light the footsteps of wanderers, lest perad venture they stumble through the darkness of the world. ta Human Friendship Plus. R. Miller There are many 'lives that are be- ing saved, refined, swetened, riched by a human friendship. Here is one of the best of younger Christian men of who has been lifted up of ordinary ability into refinement, power and usefulness by a gentle friendship. J ed, inspiring showing in her own life the best ideals and attainments, and her love for him and his love for her lifted him up to love's nobility. She stayed with him only a few years and then went home, walks among men fo-day with a stréngth, an energy and a force of character, born 'of the holy friend- ship which meant so much.to him. - The hest earthly friendsh'ps are but little fragments of the friend- ship of Christ. It is perfect. Its touch is always gentle and full of healing. ® Its help is always wise Its tenderness is like the warmth | of a heavenly summer. If a sacred human exerts such influence over a true | life, surely the consciousness that { Christ is our friend and we are His } should check every evil {quell every bitter feeling friendship holp, true and heavenly.
