EK. Martin Makes an Appeal. When the Canadian soldiers go over the ocean to fight in Belgium, they will not carry any clothing but that which will be on their backs If the war lasts for any length of time, even a few months, they will very naturally require a renewal of some of their clothing When they are wounded or sick, they will re- quire bandages and dressings In order that these necessaries of the battlefield should be on hand, the Red Cross society, St. John's Am- bulance corps, of Kingston, has un- dertaken to supply a fair share of shirts, Balaclava caps, bandages and surgical dressings. Mrs. I. E. Martin, 81 King street, is president of the local Red Cross society, of this city, and with a num- ber of workers have for the past week been meeting in the biglogical building of Queen's university, mak- ing the above-mentioned articles. They received subscriptions to the amount of $175 for the purchase of materials, hut this sum has been al- ready used up, and more money, be- sides help, is needed. Mrs. Martin has asked the Whig to issue a general 'invitation to the ladied of Kingston to join in with the Red Cross society and aid in the gork it has undertaken. Every woman of the city will be made wel- come at Queen's biological building, on Union street, each morning from 9.45 till 12.45 o'clock, and in the af- | 5.45 o'clock, members of on hand ternoon from 3 to during which® hours the society will be to give instructions. All wo- men who can spare the time can aid in making bandages, dress- ings, and woolen shirts and Bala- slava caps. Mrs. Martin states that om appli- cation being made to her she will supply the wool for lad'es who would like to knit these things at home, and send them in afterwards. So far 1,000 bandages and dressings have been made, but thousands mo! are needed to send across the sea with the Camadian contingent.
