FRENDS OF SOLDIER CLAIM HE IS NOT GETTING A FAIR DEAL, Charged With Housebreaking, But It Is Claimed He Was Only Going to Thrash Man Who Made State- ments About Russian. No cases were heard in the Police Court on Saturday morning owing to Magistrate Farrell being out of the city. There were four cases on the docket, but all were remand- ed until Tuesday and Wednesday. The case of John Collins, picture agent, was remanded until Tuesday. Charles Bryant, charged with an in- fraction of the liquor act, was re- manded until Wednesday. , Robert Fish, a soldier, 'charged with housebreaking by Vince Oskey, was put on Tuesday's docket. An officer of the company of which Fish is a member was present, and urged the acting 'Magistrate to allow the accused out on condition that the military authorities be responsible that the accused would be on hand when his case was called, but.the acting Magistrate would not consent. People. interested in Fish state that he is not getting a square deal. They claim that he is not guilty of housebreaking ,but was going to fight with an Austrian who, it is al- legd, had made certain statements about a Russian soldier which he would not stand for. T. J. Rigney has been engaged to defend the ac- cused. . John Cleaver, an American oiti- zen, who has been on remand for some time waiting to be shipped across the line, was remanded again until Wednesday. He told the act- ing Magistrate that on Friday night he had suffered a hemorrhage, and thought he should receive medical treatment. Arrest For Theft, William Jackson, aged twenty-one years, was arrested on Saturday morning by Police Constable Mar- shall Armstrong charged with steal- ing a bicycle from Allan Davis, a sol- dier at Barriefield Camp. Jackson has a bad record, having been before the court on several oe- casions, and has served time in jail.
